Will Katie Holmes’ Broadway Debut Boost Her Career?
Katie Holmes has already made her Broadway debut in “All My Sons” and audiences have spoken out about the great job she did. The show is in preview mode right now, and will officially open on October 16th, but you all know that already.
What I want to know, is if you think this will boost Katie’s career when she is done with the play? She has her guest appearance on Eli Stone coming up, which she has already had rave reviews from co-stars on. I wonder if she’ll do more TV?

15 opinions for Will Katie Holmes’ Broadway Debut Boost Her Career?

I voted “too soon to tell” because I really feel it is.
The show officially opens on October 16th. IF the reviews from professional critics are good, it may be positive for Katie’s career within the industry. She’ll be offered better roles in better films.
If not, you have the opposite problem. Industry insiders are very interested in professional reviews. IF the reviews are negative, Katie could have a real problem on her hands.
It’s not that she won’t get offers…..it’s the quality of the offers that will be lessened, putting her in a position to do other roles like “Mad Money” which absolutely do not play up to her talents and are not well received by critics or general moviegoers.
Just my opinion…..

well…..her role is not a leading role; she did a great job (according to my cousin! :) ), but then again, we will need to see what other offers she gets once other directors see her in this.

I voted yes. :)
I am very confident that the professional reviews will be positive. If they were to be negative, we would have an idea by now, after all, previews have been showing for over a week and all we are hearing from theatre goers and even Broadway columnists is positive stuff. The worst they can be is lukewarm, but negative? Nah, I doubt.
Generally the play has been very good for her career and esteem. It has had the best selling previews this summer with record attendance. (check variety for recent update). Even if she was not acting well (which she is), atleast producers now know that she sells. Look at how much publicity she has given to Eli Stone and AMS, to broadway on the whole.
Producers are also noting that she is such a darling to work with. All her co stars both in Eli and AMS have only nice things to say about her. Now, you may think that this is a given but some stars like Lohan have producers complaing about them all the time. Just to be clear, I am not comparing her to Lohan. Just saying.
I hope she does another play. Small screen would not be bad either. I want her to do a big picture too or a strong role as a lead. She expressed interest in doing a period drama. I hope she gets to do that.

Good opinion Charlotte. :)
Jenna - how lucky is your cousin!? That’s great that someone you know was able to see her.

Are they legally allowed to say anything bad about her? I heard they all had to sign one of Cruise’s famous confidentiality agreeements.
I voted too soon to tell. The play is still in previews and the real critics have not spoken. Also, New York is not L.A.
Seriously, I think it is Weist, a several time Emmy winner, and Lithgow that many people are going to see. They are the stars of the play after all.
Even Patrick Wilson has won awards for his Broadway performances. So, the others in the cast are certainly more than deserving of credit for this play’s success.

A classic American play with two veteran stage actors that had many saying Katie Holmes would never be able to hold her own……………She does hold her own.
It’s a memorable stage debut.

I haven’t been impressed with her acting abilities in her recent movies; I thought she was better in Dawson’s Creek. However, I will see All My Sons in two weeks, and I hope this role is more suited to her abilities. I hope she is improving, and it sounds like from others’ reviews that she is, and that would be great :)

Mary, I never said Katie didn’t hold her own. That had nothing to do with my statement. It was just another opportunity for you to spin.

Anon, if she was nastyt o work with, the media would have picked up on it. It would at least appear in the Page six blind quote. People get hold of these things. Even if they signed confidentiality agreements which I doubt is true, why gush about someone who is horrible to work with? Unless of course those so called agreements stipulate that they have to praise her no matter what. Which I doubt is the case. She is a nice person to work with, she was even before Tom.

you know I don’t really care what she dose. To me she is a bad, no matter what she doses. If you ask me she is trying to heard to prove herself. she can’t act and or sing or dance. I don’t think she has it. I dance class or singing dosen’t make her a star. and people stop feeling sorry for her. susan kuby stassi

I think it will help her career because people in the industry will look at her in a different way, and if she’s good in E Stone, that’s another boost for her. I think these last couple of years have been difficult ones, because people have concentrated too much on their religious beliefs and not enough on talent, people loved saying Mad Money bombed, but if we were all honest it did heaps better than other bigger name actresses movies, but the media made a big deal of her and the other actresses went untouched for their poor showing at the box office. There are a lot of over rated actresses out there, maybe this Broadway show will show her in a different light.

I hope that she does a great job when it opens, for the sake of her career, the play, and the price the audience is paying for tix.
But..what I find most annoying is this unfathomable sense of entitlement she and TC have: she wants to run in the NY marathon…boom…she gets in and others don’t. She states she wants to do a Broadway show..boom…Julliard trained young actresses (working for scale) who have paid their New York theatre dues are ignored, and she gets a “million dollars” to perform.
