Valykrie Trailer - Again

by Julie on March 24th, 2008

The last Valykrie trailer that was posted on TomKatCrazy was deleted from YouTube. So here it is again.

I’m not into war movies in the slightest, so I’m not sure if I’ll go see this one. Maybe I’ll send my husband. :)

20 opinions for Valykrie Trailer - Again

$90 plus million in production costs and still not done. It will be interesting to see what happens with it. I just don’t think with things the way they are many people will want to see a serious war movie. It looks like it is mostly the action-adventure movies that are doing well right now.

    Oh well, time will tell.

I’m not allowed to say anything sassy, and it’s so difficult! I really want to say something sassy, but I won’t. Tom’s hair looks cute in the trailer. That’s something nice to say.

I don’t like war movies much either but I think Valkyrie is a WWII thriller not so much a war movie. The director and writer made The Usual Suspects that I liked a lot and am hoping this is a good movie. A great cast I think. So don’t give up on it yet Julie!

Thank you for the work you’re doing here–know it can’t be easy.

Ok, I am confused also I know nothing about this guy, but is he suppose to have an accent? I think he is right?

I read the director decided the actors should use their own accents.

Looking at the trailer, it would still seem just a little more realistic if accents were used. Just my opinion, all I’m saying.

    NY you are too funny!
I wont either( say something sassy), but I am sure I would agree with you on this one, I cannot imagine liking this movie.
    Where is MI4? :)

Some times accents can get in the way of good acting. Brad Pitt messed his role on snatch trying to fake a British accent.

I liked Tom Cruise in Lions of the Lambs, he was very good as Senator. This looks promising, hmmmm. Haven’t read the reviews yet, just judging from the trailer.

I think I’ll like it better with everyone speaking in their own voice, fake accents can be distracting, for me anyway. I guess I don’t think it makes it more realistic to me since they weren’t really sitting around speaking English with a German accent back then anyway. I am looking forward to this and hoping it’s good.

Good actors don’t use fake accents. A good actor is able to play his role perfect.

A good director will follow the rules set forth by the one with the money, ie., producer/ movie studio. There is a GOOD reason why the director was told to do away with the accents.
I don’t remember, which studio is producing this movie?

I think it was Robin Hood….Kevin Costner tried and it didn’t work. I was young, but I think that was one of the movies where the accent went wrong. Good Movie though.

Either way, TC always does a good job, is good on the eyes, and seems to find roles that keep me interested in the entire movie.

Kevin Costner never used an accent in the movie. He was also a little old for the part.

I don’t know abou the accent thing. When done right, it can really add to the movie.

What is hard about this kind of movie and no accents is that I keep picturing the Allies (Americans and British) and not the Nazis they were fighting against. The accents would have been better in this case to distinguish between the two because everyone will know that it is the British and Americans that are supposedly at war with the Nazis. In this case, it takes a lot away from the authenticity of the movie.

I heard somewhere that Cruise can’t do accents.

Mamacita, I’m with you on that one. I listened to the trailer again and am wondering why are all the people around Tom Cruise speaking with what sounds like a British accent and he speaks like an “All American” guy? It’s just hard to picture these people as being the Germans.

Valkyrie has to do with the efforts of Stauffenberg and other high ranking German officers to end Hitler’s reign from within. It is a thriller in every way and in listening to the actors involved in the project speak of it, the script is brilliant and Cruise as Stauffenberg was tailor made for him to play.

The movie centers on Stauffenberg and the lead up and then failure of the July 20th, 1944 plot.
It’s a thriller………………Think in terms of The Usual Suspects also directed by Bryan Singer.

I don’t see a German accent as being necessary for this movie.
The Stauffenberg story is the important factor here and what a story it is.

The movie looks good. Does the accent really matters? Stauffenberg spoke in German not English with an accent, if we want the movie to be accurate then the actors should really be speaking German.

    Lol Tia.

I bet if Tom used an accent the same people would attack him no matter how good it was. And you are right, if we are all to be ‘perfect actors’, then every one should have learned German and not use German accents.

I wasn’t attacking the man!! I was just giving my own opinion as you are giving yours.

anna u mentioned brad pitt messes up his accent in snatch, he didnt, hes a gypsie in the film, they have a irish/kockny accent which is very hard to understand and is not like anyother britsh accent, he does a good job and sounds authentic trust me im british and have met many gypsies. xx

Personally, I don’t think Tom’s CA accent in this German character is as bad as the actor that has the British accent. Now that one sort of messes with the whole film as England in this time period is at WAR with Germany.

Ryan, nothing against Brad but his accent in Snatch was actually cringe worthy. Officially, that is the worst attempt at an accent I have seen in a movie. The acting was rubbish too. The casting generally. What am I saying, lets just say that movie is not going down as the greatest movie in history. LOL.

Personally I prefer no accent to controversial accents. After all if accents were a big deal, what would 300, Troy, apocalypto et al do?
