TomKat and Suri Cruise Do Tea
Image used with permission by Splash News Online
I love this picture of Suri Cruise. It just doesn’t get much cuter than this. This photo was snapped as Katie Holmes and Suri were leaving their Manhattan apartment. They hopped in their awaiting SUV and met dad/hubby Tom Cruise at Alice’s Tea Cup.
Alice’s Tea Cup is a scone and dessert shop on the Upper East Side. As the Cruises left, they were greeted by a mass amount of cameras (shocking, I know) and fans.
Katie’s play, “All My Sons”, is currently in previews. It officially opens on October 16th. Ticket sales have so far been fantastic for “All My Sons” and Broadway ticket sales in general are up. One of these days I am going to make it to New York and catch a show.
+2 pictures below. Hopefully I will have more photos later today.

Much better choice of clothing in these pics. Wonderful combination. Her long, flowy skirt and relaxed tee/cardigan and ballet flats all “go” together. The choice to spice up the outfit with a patterned flat was just perfect. The clothing fits well, and she looks just wonderful. Suri’s hair looks so thick and beautiful. Her dress is just perfect and complements her lovely ballet slipper. TC and his sweater were also a good choice. Very pleased with their clothing selections. I have been to Alice’s…….I loved it!!!

check out JJ for more pics that are better quality. when observing the JJ photos I was able to discern that KH’s skirt was made out of a very dressy material. This changes my initial oooh and ahhh post. If that skirt was made out of a chiffon type of material then it would call for a more elegant style of top/sweater, not a cotton , casual, masculine style cardigan with a loose tee. Perhaps, she could have chosen a cashmere, more feminine sweater to pair with the dressier skirt. Now, if that skirt was a cotton, knit, poly blend as I initially believed it to be then the casual, wool, cotton cardigan she has on would make “sense”. Really…..does she have a stylist on payroll?

Should a stylist be needed for a casual tea outing? Aren’t they for the red carpet? I am not fashion expert but if a celeb is not on duty, they should be free to throw on anything comfy. I love Kati’s skirt. I am not sure about the upper part. I doubt she was out to impress though.

Lauren: no I agree, a stylist should not be needed for a “tea” outing. I just get frustrated b/c with all the money that TC has bestowed upon her she should dress much better than she does. Many times she appears to have just blindly pointed into her closet and thrown on whatever randomly comes up. Rarely, do I feel that she makes choices that go together. My goodness, she mixes styles, periods etc. together that have no business being worn simultaneously. (eg. her french polka-dot parisian silk scarf, with a western chunky style brown leather belt and black delicate ballet flats with pegged rolled acid washed jeans. That is just wrong on so many levels. I just cannot understand why woman who has been provided so much via her husband would dress so chaotically. Those pieces I mentioned (silk scarf, western belt) are all excellent accessories when worn appropriately. The style belt calls for a brown weathered boot and that scarf for a peep-toe shoe. She must think when she leaves her residence that she looks great but how she throws styles together without any rhyme or reason is doing a disservice to the labels she wears. She has the cash thanks to TC she should use it more wisely when choosing what to showcase on her back.

Incredible how judgemental society is, especially of others who have more than us. Great for Katie that she breaks out of the norm and modernizes familar fashions.

I dont know why ppl say that Suri never smiles. That is such bull! I have seen several photos of her smiling and laughing. She is only 2 years old.She is scared to death of the paparazzi, that is why she always hides her face. She hates all the cameras flashing in her eyes, and ppl calling her name that she doesnt know!!! Paparazzi are crazy and dangerous.I would hold my child also,if i was Katie and Tom!!For safety reasons!

Fashion would never have evolved to what it has if we had all stuck with black with black always, shoe color must match bag always etc.
Fashion is all about daring to be different and trying new things.

Maybe her fashion statement is letting the world know that she doesn’t care what we think. She always looks good, but I do prefer seeing any celebrity in the “I don’t give a crap what you think” outfit and “I will wear what I what and mix up whatever I want” thing. If you know what I mean. I am so sick of seeing celebs and people in heels, done up hair, and a full face of make-up for the store etc.. Lets be real.

I too like her without all the makeup and hair extensions….she has great bone structure and is naturally beautiful. Thats not what I am complaining about…..I am frustrated with her ill-matched outfits, and I am not suggesting that she match shoes to purse and wear all black…I am writing ill-matched meaning her mixing of “styles”. Her choices are best described as chaotic.

The mixing of styles has been seen on fashion runways before, it’s nothing new.
Fashion calls for taking chances and being different.
It’s like coloring outside the box and it needs to be……………That’s what makes fashion interesting.

For someone who thinks Katie dresses ridiculously she sure spends a lot of time checking her out on this site! She is just in envy…give Suri a break please! I totally agree with Ronna. How would you like it if you were being followed and had flashing camera’s in your face? It must really be terrifying for Suri. Too many crazy people in this world. Of course, she should be in her parents arms in public; she wants and needs that security!

Hi Julie, I hope you remove the comments that were made from Barty about Suri. She is only 2 years old and is obviously shy of all the flashing light in their face where ever they go. Barty is just bashing this child and It is just wrong and not appropriate to judge her. As, he will never walk a day in her shoes , so therefore he shouldn’t judge. TomKat protect Suri and they are doing a good job.

The other day I saw pics of Katie in shorts and her cute headband, I liked it, then I saw other pics of her withholes in her jeans and a cute little grey knitted jumperand her high heels, Ireally liked both those looks, and sometimes I go on about her lack of hair(make that most of the time) and I desperately would like to see her a few kilos heavier (only because I think it really suits her more rounded), but I admire her because these last few weeks she’s worn every style there is, I’ve never seen anyone wear so m any different style of pants and jeans and even though I don’t always like what she wears at least she has the guts to be a bit different, all the actresses lok the same , same hair, same clothes ,same poses. Here in Sydney WHO mag which is the sister mag of PEOPLE, voted her 3rd best dressed, they chose her for high waisted jeans, the dress she wore at Tropic Thunder, the red dressshe wore at the UNICEF Gala, and the dress she wore at the Black Womens Lunch, and her hair at the Fantasy Gala thing came in the top 10 hair styles, longer hair really adds something to her and her clothes (had to put that in ).

Oops again, it didn’t show…………..Here’s the comment.
Gone are the days when fashion pieces needed to go together……………..Yes, you can take pieces and mix and match.
Of course there’s the ridiculous in fashion……….Berardi’s boots that have no heel at all and Aminaka Wilmont whose shoe has no sole.
Who would have thought that the ballet flat would be the shoe to be paired with every outfit and one could still look stylish.
Lauren
Oct 1, 2008 at 6:08 am
Jenna, I think when you are into fashion like you are, it is inevitable that you have a critical eye. But from a normal person’s point of view, Katie’s matches or lack of is not big deal. If she was breaking some fashion rules at the red carpet or gala, it would be understandable but she is just going about her life and if you chose to scrutnise another celebrity, you would get the same frustations.
Now saying ‘…with all Tom’s money…’ is a bit unfair. I doubt Katie married Tom for his money to improve her dressing style. One, she has her own money. I am sure she has not yet used up the 2 million she got from Batman begins. She may love shopping but she has not yet bought any private jets or chateaus or yachts. Her spending is squarely with in her means.
Yes she no longer pays rents or has to buy her own car etc but even without Tom’s money, she is no pauper. She loves to shop, she did even before Tom, just that no one was following her life then. But we have not seen her buying things that are not with in her means.
Mary

The same expectations expected for the red carpet should not be carried into the everyday and doing mundane things such as going to and from rehearsal.
If it weren’t for the paps continually following her, Katie would be like any woman going about their business in NYC.
I’ve said this before…………She would be noticed because she’s stunning.

What Barty said was just an opinion not a judgement. Suri does often look sad and unhappy and lonely. Once in a while you can go to the whole set of pictures and there will be one of her smiling. Rare tho. I love Katie’s outfit and for that matter Suri’s here but once again Suri is in desperate need of a hair trim. Wearing very expensive clothes doesn’t do much for anyone if their hair is totally uncared for. If anyone can show ONE just one picture of Suri interacting with ANY other children I would love to see it. This is one lonely little girl. She has her dollies and her stuffed animals which she talks to, guards, nannies, and her mom and dad when they have time but no other kids around pretty much ever–not even her siblings. Even tom’s other kids got to do soccer and play with other children. And it isn’t the celeb thing because you can find tons of pics of other celeb kids out doing normal things, playing and RUNNING around in normal play clothes..

Katie’s everyday look is just that - everyday. The hoopla is all about the media circus that Cruise created from the couch jumping to the international press release of his engagement to the publication of his daughter in Vanity Fair. He did this to her. There’s an excellent interview Robert Redford gave about his dear friend, Paul Newman, that talks about the star’s privacy and how Newman, an intensely private person, was able to maintain that privacy. Bottom line, he says, it takes work. But, you have to want privacy. Obviously, the Cruise’s do not. They primp their daughter for the camera so it would be a very difficult case to make for privacy in their case.
Mary
Oct 1, 2008 at 10:18 am
May Mr. Newman’s soul rest in peace.
In Paul Newman’s heyday he nor any other star of his era had to deal with the paps as they are now………..It has reached the point where no boundaries exist!
Tom and Katie are with their two year old child…………The paps make it their business to follow them everywhere.
Tyler the hoopla you stated is from three years ago………..right now the hoopla is all about her work, on Broadway and on television.
NYC has much for children to enjoy. Should the Cruise’s sequester their child? No Build-A- Bear workshop, no Alice’s Tea cup, no Disney shows, no Chelsea Piers.
When they start taking her to red carpet premieres then I’ll complain.

For anyone to believe that Suri doesn’t play with other children is really ignorant. I’m sure she plays often with other celebrity’s children. She also gets to travel and experience things we could only dream of as children. What is worse is when common folks put their children in daycare all day everyday and don ‘t spend much time with them. Suri is with Mom or Dad most of the time. She doesn’t smile for the camera because she doesn’t like the media attention. She is a happy child and I have seen it in pictures where she doesn’t realize she is being photographed; that is when she is smiling. Let’s try and not be so judgmental when we don’t really have the facts.

Oct 1, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Yeah Leah, I am sure you are right. The fact that when she is photographed at Chelsea’s she is in a private class, when she goes to the Build A Bear place, Tom has it closed down so that no other children are around, etc. What celebs has Katie OR Tom been seen with recently with children??? Katie takes Suri to the park and again she doesn’t seem to even know what to do with other children. It reminds me of Christina Onassis and then her daughter Athina. Raised in total luxury, never wanting for anything except human contact. Suri appears to have it all and yet there are hundreds of photos of her looking a little bit lost and lonely. Tom is very different in the raising of this child. His others played sports and were around other children..this one is different which often happens to people who have children in their 40’s. They do seem to be more cautious and with his great need of security everywhere, that just flows to everyone around him.

Oct 1, 2008 at 3:40 pm
I agree Leah,we don’t know what they do in private, for all we know Tomand Katie may have made a deal with the paps for Suri to be left alone when she’s not with them, so she can go out with her nanny or whoever and not be bothered, and at two and a half your family and your toys are your life, she goes to lots lots of different things and I read that she plays with Patrick Wilsons children at the theatre, and as for pimpingtheir child I can think of 2 other set of parents that do that very well and its not Brangelina that comes to mind either.
Leah
Oct 1, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Hey, hold on “concerned mom”, I am a mother in my 40’s. AGAIN, she appears not to be happy when there are a bunch of Paparazzi invading her space! Do you honestly believe that we see all of their family life in the public eye?? I think I would feel more sorry for your children. It’s concerning that you seem to feel sorry for Suri when you don’t have a clue of what really life is like for her. Katie and Tom both have big extended families and lot’s of friends. I’m sure that includes children. PLUS, I don’t see any real benefit in my child playing on a playground with snotty nose kids that are strangers! Suri just took a dance class (I’m sure their were other children there for her to interact with). How many 2.5 year olds do that? Most children don’t play sports when they are 2.5 years old. Give them a break… and watch this little girl grow up with a great upbringing considering their lack of privacy! It’s amazing to me that you seem to know that Suri is an unhappy child. I don’t think Tom and Suri would let that happen to anyone they love.
Leah
Oct 1, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Oops! Typo, I don’t think that Tom and Katie would let that happen to anyone they love; especially there child. And oh, I apologize for saying I feel more sorry for your children, “concerned mom” that was innappropriate of me. I was upset. I just wish people wouldn’t be so analytical of this little girls life. She is a beautiful child. I honestly believe in my heart that Tom and Katie are doing a wonderful job. What we really should be looking at is how invasive the paps are to celebrities!
tyler
Oct 1, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Who knows what happens in private? Only they do, but we do know that The Cruises don’t set any boundaries in public with the paparazzi. They stop and smile for while their daughter buries her head in their shoulders because the flashlights are too painful for her. My husband is a photographer so I know about camera lights and I find it amazing that the Cruises wear their high-end sunglasses, yet expose that child to harsh lights. They may be good parents as Annie believes, but that’s definitely not the image they’re portraying to most people who are paying attention.
Mary
Oct 1, 2008 at 5:52 pm
Paying attention to what?……………….The papparazzi being completely intrusive and invasive.
Great that Suri now knows to hide her face and bury her head in her parents shoulders.
The paps need to back off when celebrities are with their children.

Tyler, I believe Suri has now mastered the art of ignoring the paps, she huddlles close into her parents , and does’nt look at them day time is’nt so bad. How do you know they stop and pose , the pics are taken while they are coming out of somewhere , or going insomewhere, I don’t think you are fair when it comes to TC because you don’t really like him and whatever he does is wrong in your eyes . There are things sometimes he does that I don’t like, but I like him, even if I do have a go at him occasionally, so tell me what you would have them do with Suri, and be fair .
Leah
Oct 2, 2008 at 12:39 am
Yes, really Tyler tell us what they are suppose to when they have Suri? I know they won’t sign autographs when they have Suri. They don’t stand around and chit chat either. They move from the car to a building and then back to their car. They smile because they are polite people. And they dont allow anyone to get too close to them for safety reasons, hence the bodyguards. It’s so easy to be judgmental of their parenting style when we don’t have a clue what life is like for them. I’m sure they do the best that they can for Suri; that is what most parents do for their child(ren), they do their best.

Here’s part of an interview ABC did with Robert Redford following Paul Newman’s death about privacy. I realize Katie once said that should would like it if Suri became an actress so maybe these people had different philosophies, but here’s the difference between Newman and Cruise on the matter of privacy (IMO of course):
QUESTION: You said something about you really valued your privacy. He was one of the first actors that managed to carve or make a real line in the sand between the private and the personal. And how do you think he did that?
“REDFORD: I think Paul was able to maintain that because of the personal value system that said I’m not going to the way of all flesh. It would certainly be tempting for him, as it has been for me, but for Paul, a lot longer.
And I think he made a decision somewhere along the line, I think, “I’m going to have a life and my life, if I’m going to have one, it has to be private. And I’m committed to family. In order to do that, I’ve got to come up with a scheme to avoid the usual stuff that sucks people into the exalt of our business.” And I agree with that.
QUESTION: What was the scheme?
REDFORD: How you move around publicly and how you maintain yourself privately. Not easy when people are outside your door and looking for ways to get in and all that kind of stuff.
You just had to get very — you get paranoid. You take on paranoia as a strategy. It’s not fun. That’s not a great way to live, but you have to do it to protect yourself. And I think his being able to balance between when he decided to go public for something and being private, he just did very well.
But I think it took time. I mean, I can’t speak for him. I just saw the result of it and I thought he did damn well.

Ok…..sorry…been swamped at work and at graduate school, but I am back. Back to her fashion issues. In regards to Annie’s comment: I agree with you Annie that the Black Womens, Unicef, the MET Gala, TThunder all showcased amazing looks for her. If you all will recall I RAVED for days about her MET outfit, the daring blue stilettos, the red beyond gorgeous gown, and the striking red hue makeup…that look was in my eyes perfect! It all “worked”. The gown she wore to the Armani event, (the champagne, strapless with her hair severely pulled back adorned with those matching colored stones was a look beyond amazing.) That gown and hair was perfect, as was the time she wore that blue velvet number while in DC (I think it was DC). All ideal and perfect for her. KH even verbally quoted in an interview I watched that that champagne gown and stones in her hair was one of her most ideal looks. The interviewer asked her “Katie can you remember a time when you went out an dyou were able to say yeah, I got it all right this time, and she responded yes, the time I wore the champagne gown. I agreed with her 100%. So, she clearly knows there are times when she looks like the style icon she is held out there to be. The time she wore the wide-leg plaid trousers in Berlin with the navy sweater…all accessories made sense…she just looked ideal. These past few months in NY she has gotten it all wrong almost every time. Its sad really. I do not care what others post b/c I feel very strongly about this. One can still look decent when running errands and I have not thought that KH has dressed decently since she got to NY. Whatever fashion statement she is making it is falling flat. She has the cash….start using it…hire a stylist.
jenna
Oct 2, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Now…check out JJ…there are pics of her in a wide-leg stiched jean and they are not dragging on the filthy ground. She is wearing a great stiletto reddish boot…..much better KH.
jenna
Oct 2, 2008 at 12:41 pm
The chunky red stiletto with a mild front platform is the right choice to pair with the heavy stitching on the retro looking jean. The platform with the stiching gives the look a 70’s feel and it makes “sense”. It would not make sense to wear that jean with a delicate ballet flat or a patent leather peep toe b/c that jean is not “delicate”. Its “heavy” with a “boyish” detailed stitching. See, she got it right here. Many other times she has worn the entirely wrong shoe with a jean.

Suri is a happy child who is very clever. She devised her own means of dealing with the paparazzi. Shut your ears and close your eyes. She is a happy child when there are no paps. We have seen evidence of this so many times when long lense camera are used.
Jenna just accept that there are times when Katie will not dress to your desired standards. It is OK she has never sold herself as a fashion icon. She has no fashion label, not even a perfume out. That is if you disregard the rumours by tabloids. I have seen models and even designers dressed crappily going about their business. It is not a crime you know.

Tom was private and conspiracies were built around his life. He was open and more conspiracies were even built around his life. What does a man do.
Paul Newman lived in a different era. Even Sin atra and El vis Pre sley were never hounded in their time. The cameras were too heavy to carry around. LOL.

Lauren thank you! I’m sure your commit was directed to Tyler who clearly didn’t state his case. Oh Jenna, Help!!! Are you a stylist? I loved what you said Lauren to Jenna…couldn’t have said it better myself. I personally love the way Katie dresses. She doesn’t have to match her belt to her shoes, etc. that is soooo outdated Jenna! True style is when you create your own look. Not conform to people like you!
jenna
Oct 2, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Quit with the matching shoe to purse comments Leah….how many times have I written that this is clearly not about matching shoes to purse…if it were then I would not have applauded her choice to wear a blue stiletto with a red gown! My mind cannot be changed by any of the posters. This is just how I feel, and these are my opinions. I will compliment her choices when I feel they are appropriate; until then I will offer criticism. Enough said.

HAHAHAHA.
Never saw Paul Newman or Elvis jump on a couch, which existed at the time. When Newman proposed to his wife, I believe the Eiffel tower existed. LOL. But, he didn’t find it necessary to hold an international news conference to announce his engagement. Newman attended movie premieres but didn’t neck with his wife on the red carpet. I could go on and on and on and on, but I think this gives one a clear idea of how Cruise created his media circus.

Tyler stop comparing one celeb to another, especially Paul Newman to Cruise that is silly; 40+ age difference and a whole different era! OK, OK Jenna you commented on Katies brown belt needing to be paired with brown boots belt and shoes/color matching, close enough. She is going to play rehearsal she should just throw something on and go. Doesn’t have to be styling all the time! And by the way that costume gala when she wore the blue stiletto heel and the red/orange gown that combination looked horrible but that is just my opinion. It looked like a costume all right! Belts and shoe color don’t need to be matchy matchy, I hope that clears it up somewhat. If she wears a western boot, should her whole outfit be Western (just being a little sarcastic with you!) ??? When you were top designers clothing like she does then you can really put it on with anything and the garment will stand on its own not as a whole outfit. Designer shoes, pair them with pretty much anything as long as you aren’t running track and you can make the shoes look hot because they are hot!

Tyler, tell me , when the paps are camped outside your apartment , waiting for you to come and go , they follow you to wherever you are going, then follow you back, how on earth do you keep your privacy, it’s obviously easier in LA but I asked you to be fair and giving Paul Newman as an example didn’t really make sense

I totally agree with you Lauren some stars look very crappy, and alot of them have awful funny matchstick legs or huge legs like Btittany and they don’t care they wear short clothes , the shorter the better. Much has been written about both Newman and Elvis………. Different eras in the case of both Newman and Elvis. If the paparazzi and the tabloids were as they are now, both would have been targeted and targeted relentlessly.

Tyler, even if Newman propsoed on the Eiffel tower and jumped on couches, the cameras were still too heavy to follow him around. By the time they were lighter, he was in his dottage. That is not Tom’s fault is it?
No one is trying to silence you Jenna. I do even like reading you fashion pieces at times. Clearly you know what you are talking about. But it is getting rather old. Especially when you decide to critique the clothes she wears to work every day. She has been photographed each and every single day since she came to NY. Even you have to admit that commenting on her outfits all the time is getting a wee bit old. :)

You’re right about the press release. It was supposed to be about War of the Worlds, but he turned it into one about his relationship, or he allowed the press to do so. I’ll let you spin that one.
I recall now that even Spielberg was less than pleased that Cruise couldn’t focus on the film’s promotion. He reminded one of a little boy (pun intended) who just discovered his hormones, not a 43-year old man with children approaching their teens.
Your comment brought back alot of this. I stand by my opinions.

There are way too many people here to respond to so we will have to agree to disagree! Responding to all you is becoming a part-time job! I am glad that some of you appreciate reading my criticisms because, when appropriate, I assure there will be more. Katie, I think, is so beautiful and I get frustrated whenever I see her choice of clothing doing her a disservice. PS. I have no idea who Rachel Zoe is.

check out JJ….pics of KH in that gray sweater she sported while in Berlin…..the one she wore while visiting TC on the set of Valkryie. Looks good. Her pants are hemmed appropriately and her shoe appears to be a tad bit silvery which pulls out and complements the gray wool sweater. Good choice.

Tyler: Your comments keep harping back to three are ago.
How about we concentrate on the present……..2008.
The hoopla is now more about work, as it should be.

Harping back to three years ago.

Three years ago is entirely relevant because that’s what most people think of when they see him. People think he’s a little loony because of it.
To say the past is irrelevant is nothing short of ridiculous. I realize Cruise’s PR machine has worked hard to reverse the damage he did to himself, but it’s simply not going away. I’m sure people here know that.

Tyler:Nowhere in my comment did I say that the past relating to Cruise was irrelevant…………I said you keep harping on it.
Right now the hoopla Cruise and Holmes are creating is about their work.

………And Katie’s fashion choices. :)
Although even her fashion choices are taking a backseat to the talk of her performance on Broadway and “Eli Stone”.

Rachel Zoe is a Stylist to the Stars. She has a show on Bravo. Anyone who is into fashion surely knows who she is…Tyler, for you to say that Tom likes the paps following him and his family everywhere is really a stupid statement. I have heard him in interviews before saying he doesn’t like them. He is just a polite person. When he is with Suri he is very cautious and guarded. You don’t seem to like him so why focus your energy on this site? Is it that you are just argumentative by nature???

I never implied that Tom like the paps following him, but he does find it important career-wise to cater to them. Tom should put the needs of his child over his need to be polite to the paps. It’s as easy as that.

Tyler, you contradict yourself!!! Tom doesn’t like the Paps following him but he caters to them…give me a break; really give Tom a break! You don’t have a clue what Tom finds important. What should Tom do? Spit in their face? Oh, ya a Pap did that too him…maybe that is why he is so kind to them. I have said it before, if you dislike Tom so much you should find a different site to express your outrageous opinions!!!

Actually, it was a water pistol but I’m sure it wasn’t filtered water…

You’re right Leah. I don’t know what came over me because, honestly, I do believe Tom enjoys being followed by the paps. His actions speak for themselves.
BTW, feel free to skip over my posts if they bother you.

Suri needs her hair trimmed out of her eyes or pulled back!
