Tom Cruise Made Surprise Appearance on The View

by Julie on May 8th, 2008

croppercapture1042.Png

Tom Cruise made a surprise appearance on The View on May 7th. it was part of a tribute to Barbara Walters and Tom’ words definitely touched her. Barbara is currently celebrating 50 years as a TV personality. Amazing!

Tom praised her role as one of the first women to anchor the evening news, calling her a “leading force for women not only in the newsroom but the world at large“.

He went on to say, “Do you realize that on October 4,1976, when you became the first woman ever to anchor the evening news, that that moment in time would forever impel other women to reach for their goals in any field that they chose?” Barbra responded with “Oh Tommy baby! How nice!”

Here’s the video clip:

Thanks Julie for the video. I missed this.LOL of course I did. Glad to see Tom making all these appearances. I know non fans will say PR, of course it is PR. I always insisted he should give his side of the story. Many level headed people now understand his predicament more after that Oprah show.

what is his predicament? it’s not clear, he looks like someone who has everything anyone could wish for and more.

Ms. Walters has had many people send her video messages wishing her success and applauding her long and distinguished career including Colin Powell and Patrick Dempsey. Tom wasn’t alone in doing that.
He did the same when Oprah celebrated 20 years of her talk show.

I heard Tom might star in a movie alongside Denzel Washington, called 28th Amendment, about the president finding out that the U.S.A is controled by a secret organization! OMG this movie is wreaking cool! Tom Cruise, you must do this movie! Fo real! Yo, you must do it! I can already tell that is gonna be one tight movie, and Denzel might be in it too. It is written by the guys who wrote Mission Impossible 3!

Please Tom, you must do the 28th amendment movie! You gots too. So many people who listen to C2C are gonna support you on this one! You don’t understand how many people want this to come to light!

That would be an awesome pairing. I don’t believe that Tom and Denzel have worked together before.

OMG Tom has to do that movie. I imagine the chemistry between Tom and Denzel could be similar to Tom and Jaimie Fox in Collateral. And Denzel could be like the character from , INside Man!

  • Tuna Subway
    May 9, 2008 at 3:45 pm

And Tom could be such an accessory to Denzel, that Denz will end up getting an Oscar, just like Jaimmie did!

“Tom Cruise made a surprise appearance on the view”
WHAT? He did no such thing. The View played a prerecorded video clip of him. Geeze- get it right.
Oh but he’ll be on the view again I’m sure- his PR team is trying to get him on all the
“Look, Tom Cruise is still a good guy” shows. :P

what?? can’t the poor old guy carry a film on his own anymore these days?? dear me!!
at least he is starting to send connor out to work, so the pennies will keep rolling in…

  • Lauren
    May 11, 2008 at 1:39 pm

    Snide and petty, no?

  • Mary
    May 11, 2008 at 3:50 pm

Tom has always said there are many actors and even directors that he still wants to work with and even some he wants to work with again.
It has not a whit to do with not carrying a film on one’s own.

  • PuckHappy
    May 11, 2008 at 5:19 pm

tc didn’t look very comfortable with his words to BW. It was like someone else wrote what they wanted him to say. It did not seem to come from his heart and that is not like him.

  • tyler
    May 11, 2008 at 6:44 pm

i haven’t watched this clip because i know i’m not going to buy what he’s selling. tom cruise and barbara walters? wmaybe i missed something, but when did that all happen? has he been friends with her “forever” too?

  • Mary
    May 11, 2008 at 7:08 pm

Tyler…………….The clip was simply a congratulations, nothing more. Many other celebrities have done so now with the launch of her book.
Barbara Walters has interviewed Tom many times and he was one of the very first celebs to appear on her show The View when it first aired.
She does mention Tom in her book as well.

  • PuckHappy
    May 11, 2008 at 7:39 pm

Mary, I agree it was a congratulations to BW. But can you see that it seemed that it was more like he reading what someone else wrote.
It sounded nice, but it just wasn’t from Toms heart. I felt that he wanted to say more, be more deep. Almost like he was frustrated with the words he was saying.
PLease don’t get me wrong, this is NOT anything against tc. I think he was being held back, by someone.

  • tyler
    May 11, 2008 at 8:02 pm

i guess I have a problem with the comment because tommy was probably in the 6th grade or so when barbara became co-anchor of the evening news.
i realize he’s reflecting on history based on things he since learned, but that comment seems too well orchestrated.

  • tyler
    May 11, 2008 at 8:03 pm

oops, i was referring to tom’s comment quoted in julie’s post.

  • Tia
    May 12, 2008 at 6:40 am

Amy: That is a bit rude! Are people going to have problem with Connor choosing a career path too?…Tom has enough money to last him and his children’s lifetime. When Tom was asked in the past, if his kids will follow his footsteps….he said its up to them…whatever they want to do I’ll support them. And NK has in the past said Connor is very interest in the movie business. You know what they say….”if you have nothing good to say, don’t say it at all” at least when it comes to the children I hope you would at least follow that say….even if its to take a dig at their father in the expense of the children.

Regarding Tom Cruise, he has been lucky enough to work with some of the best in Hollywood in the past and I hope he gets the same chance in the future. Some of the directors and actors who have worked with him have their best box office hit and Oscar nominatation with Tom Cruise. Micheal Mann’s one of my favourite director got his biggest box office hit with Tom Cruise, so did Stanley Kubrick, Edward Zwick, Cameron Crowe…and not to mention Paramount studio.

And here is a quote about Tom’s co-stars Oscar win.
“Oscars and Oscar nominations have rained down on Cruise productions. Paul Newman, Dustin Hoffman, Cuba Gooding Jr, Jack Nicholson, Cameron Crowe, Holly Hunter, Oliver Stone, Barry Levinson, all of them have good reason to believe Tom Cruise is some kind of Oscar talisman. Do well next to Cruise and you’ve a fine chance of being short-listed.”

So please tell me, can’t he not star with an actor like Denzel Washington without you assuming he needs him to carry a movie? I’m a big Denzel fan but Tom has better box office record than Denzel. Please don’t compare LFL!

  • tyler
    May 12, 2008 at 7:51 am

Denzel’s better actor. Not to to TC is not good actor, but not as good.

  • Tia
    May 12, 2008 at 8:57 am

Tyler, that is your view and I respect that but personally they are in the same league acting wise.

  • amy
    May 12, 2008 at 9:19 am

who said i have any kind of problem with connor deciding to follow his parent’s career path??

i don’t know how you could read anything nasty towards connor from my comment - perhaps you are just looking for reasons to attack me and start arguments - how ridiculous

please don’t try to give me my opinions - i can think and write for myself

what i personally feel is petty, snide AND rude is people ridiculing and attacking me personally because they don’t agree with my opinions

why IS it then, that all those around tom receive oscars although he never does?? surely that must mean SOMETHING - either he is lacking in that calibre of talent or there is some ‘conspiracy’ against him - can someone please clarify this for me???

  • Mary
    May 12, 2008 at 9:36 am

There are many, many brilliant actors who have not received Oscars or even an Oscar nomination. It does not take away from the fact that they were deserving.
TC has been nominated before and I’m sure will be again.

  • Tia
    May 12, 2008 at 9:36 am

Amy, you are USING the kids to get or attack Cruise same difference. Leave the kids out!

  • Tia
    May 12, 2008 at 9:40 am

Mary, Paul Newman was one of them. He was nominated six times before he finally took home a Best Actor Oscar in 1987. When he was 62 years old.

  • Mary
    May 12, 2008 at 9:52 am

Tia…………….I think it was seven times wasn’t it and coincidentally when he finally won, it was for The Color Of Money which co-starred Cruise.

  • Lauren
    May 12, 2008 at 9:59 am

Helen Mirren got hers at 62, conspiracy too? Tom has been nominated 3 times doesn’t that say something? After all, whoever gets nominated is just as good and to be nominated three times says a lot. It comes down to how you look at the glass, you see a half empty glass, I see a half full glass. TC is only 45, plenty of time to win an oscar, after all they are given every year.

Well I see Lauren is still being allowed to disrupt the board, which is getting rather tiring and boring. Same old same old. God forbid someone have a different opinion here.

Back to the topic at hand:
I do think TC’s message to Barbara Walters on The View was lovely and highlighted just how important her contribution to women in the media has been.
She also had some wonderful things to say about Tom in her book.

  • tyler
    May 12, 2008 at 3:01 pm

it’s not too late for tc. he’s not that old. but, he needs to find some different roles, something that would make him stand out. maybe that hitler movei will be his good luck charm.

  • amy
    May 12, 2008 at 3:07 pm

he ISN’T too old, BUT i don’t think it is necessarily down to his choice of roles - his public image has taken a battering for many years now, and many people, ok, not the die hard fans, but many OTHER general members of the public, have grown suspicious of him - whether that is fair or not, that is the truth
the best thing he could do is quit that cult like his ‘friend’ james packer has just done - he does that and things will just sky rocket for him - my own opinion

  • amy
    May 12, 2008 at 3:08 pm

that hitler film is cursed - isn’t the release date being delayed YET AGAIN?? not a good sign

  • concerned mom
    May 12, 2008 at 5:12 pm

Amy, that is the first reasonable post I have seen in a while. I too believe that his only hope to really revive his career is to step away like packer just did. Wasn’t Packer the guy that got married in Italy and TC and Katie were in a lot of the pics?? That was the time that Katie had on the heels at the beach, right. Although I must say she looked stunning in that bathingsuit, heels were a bit much.

  • Lauren

I sincerely do hope we concetrate on meaningful posting. I doubt Tom’s attakers would leave him if he left scientology. They are in my opinion angry people who want an excuse to hit out at someone. Tom is young and there are many roles to come yet. Valkyrie was criticised even before it was shot and I am still looking forward to it whenever it comes out. In the mean time, we will see what happens.

Parker has not confirmed those rumours neither did he confirm rumours that he was until we saw pictures of their convention. I believe he has a right to believe what he wants. I think he was friends with Tom before he joined Tom’s faith. Tom’s closest friends like Paula Wagner are not scientologist so I don’t see why Parker leaving his church should make a difference in their relationship. Parker is a private person and even when Tom was said to be officiating at his wedding, he neither denied nor confirmed it. I guess we will know for sure when there is another scientology convention and we see him or not see on the front row. This whole story smirks of ‘anonymous’ machinations.

  • amy
    May 13, 2008 at 9:14 am

look, the person you are talking about so ‘knowingly’ is packer not parker -

you obviously don’t know much about him so please don’t try to guess his feelings or religious beliefs -
