Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes in Asbestos Scare

Reportedly Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are being urged to seek medical treatment for the possibility that they were exposed to asbestos. For Tom’s birthday, the pair took a cruise on a Church of Scientology cruise ship with pals John Travolta and Kelly Preston. The cruise ship was later discovered to have dangerous levels of blue asbestos.
Toxicologist Dr. Chris Coggins explains: “This is the most dangerous type of asbestos because the fibers are smaller than the white asbestos and can penetrate the lung more easily.
“Once diagnosed with mesothelioma, the victim has six months to a year to live. It gradually reduces lung function until the victim is no longer able to breathe and dies.”
The Church of Scientology cruise ship is often used to host parties and events and is currently undergoing testing.
Well that’s down-right scary! I hope they get tested and that everything turns out okay.

Yes this is something the COS is denying currently although it has officially been docked for this reason. Asbestos has been present on the FreeWind apparently since Hubbard’s time. And many SeaOrg members have died of cancer. This is the loving ‘church’ TC has signed his life and Katie’s away to. I sure hope they do get tested as Tom has been on board many times over the years. Blue Asbestos is ok apparently if wet but if even 1 fiber gets in the air and is breathed in, it sits in the lungs for years sometimes and then suddenly–cancer. Hope he gets all his children tested as well. Maybe this will be his moment of eye-opening truth.
I don’t understand. Is there a reason COS isn’t doing something to heal those that are sick? Tom himself said that they are the ONLY ones that have the cure.
Ok…this is awful. I would be TERRIFIED if I were Katie. Cancer???? How scary. I am worried now for them all. I would be crushed if they all developed mesothelioma. What a horrible ending to such charmed lives. I will anxiously await any official statement from TC as to whether or not they were all checked out.
Well, Puck, apparently they have concealed this information from everyone, even the Celeb members. This information, however, has certainly been known for years by David Miscaviage himself as this story goes all the way to the top. Sea Org members sign something like a billion year contract-they apparently believe they have lived many many lives- and serving in the Sea Org is supposedly sort of one of the top places to be able to ’serve’. From what I have read at xenu among other sites, most of the people serving in this capacity had cancers that went largely untreated until way too late. The CoS core belief system is that at the higher levels, they have the ability to stay well or heal themselves and others. This story is very very big and we are just seeing the beginning of it. I also hope John Travolta and his family get tested. Sadly, if they find out they have been exposed to active Asbestos, not much can be done. Anyone see all the commercials for Mesothelioma class action suits currently going on?? According to mesolink.org, it is one of the deadliest cancers and is almost 100 percent preventable.. Prolonged exposure is what greatly increases the risk of illness. So, if there is any proof AT ALL that the CoS kept this information hidden from hundreds of people over a period of many years now, my oh my. Keep an eye on this story, because it is not going to go away and the CoS may well be up to their neck in some serious cover-up business. I think this is the story that Tory Magoo was talking about recently on youtube. She said something big was about to go down in the CoS and I think this may be it.

Oh pluuuuze! First of all the Freewinds was launched after L Ron Hubbard passed away. Secondly, this is all rumor – where are the facts? Who said it? Who reported it? Before the Freewinds was launched, it was shelled and then remodeled top to bottom. I believe it’s been remodeled now again. And the C of S already in the early 80’s had been removing all asbestos from their buildings, so I would really like to know the actual source of this tidbit of “news”. Sounds like a great invention from someone who has no clue what they are talking about.
Julie, from mom’s post this thing has been denied so are you going to post the denial? I think when you started posting gossip you said you will post a retraction also…but I haven’t seen one yet. For example Victoria Beckham has said both gossips about her being in a movie with Tom Cruise and designing costume for his movie were NOT true.
OOPS my bad. It became part of the CoS back in ‘85! I have reread this story. Seems like a recent refit and refurbish caused the Blue Asbestos to be discovered by the Curacao Drydock Co. All work was stopped and they don’t know if they can even fix the ship. Lermanet site story says this,
“Freewinds’ captain did not report this when it’s own personnel were working on the ship on the Mathey warf in Otrobanda. The Curacao Drydock Company (CDM), where the ship was taken for reparatory work on the hull, heard from the surveyor that there may be asbestos on the ship. The captain acknowledged the incident and said that after the incident Freewinds had some investigation done. Keeping the incident quiet became more noticeable when it turned out that the 40-year-old ship contatined blue asbestos.”
From what I can find, the Asbestos thing has been known by higher authorities in the church since early 90’s. And there is a much higher rate of cancers from the SeaOrg members who have served on board for a number of years.
The main thing here is that TC gets himself and his family checked out because no matter whether or not the CoS has known about it, kept it undisclosed or whatever, he has been on this ship in the last few years and needs to be checked. Untreated, Mesothelioma cancer is one of the deadliest cancers on earth.
Unfortunately nothing will be done and no one held responsible if Cruise and Holmes are okay. The other Sea ORg members don’t have the political clout or money that Cruise does. I am sure Cruise will have top notch health care.

ok, so they get checked out and lets say cancer is found…then what? is this form treatable? I mean…..how do they spot the asbestos in the lining of your lung, if it lays dormant for years. How do you know if you should do an pre-emptory treatment in case it is hidden away in the lining of the lung. I really am worried for them. If this story is true then this is a nightmare. With hepatitis you can do some preemptive treatment but can you with this disease? I wonder what TC and Katie are saying behind closed doors on this one. This is serious gossip, not the silly rumors that usually circulate about these two.
This is bad. I hope it is not true. I don’t want anything to happen to this family or any other.

maybe this blue asbestos situation is made up in case she doesn’t go to broadway or doesn’t get pregnant, like to “save face”. they can blame the asbestos.
The point is it’s a rumor. When it’s confirmed as a fact, then it would make sense to discuss it.
This clearly is a rumour. It has also been denied. I wish those who clearly don’t care about Tom and have done all they can to ruin him would not spread rumours like these pretending to care about his health. They will be fine.

Suzie, I doubt this story was spread by the Cruise camp so I don’t think it is their way of saving face. I also doubt TC can resort to such desperate face saving measures.

I think the introduction of even the idea of asbestos shows us how dangerous the cult is.
But Mary, if he is ruined, then he is going through bad times too, no? You too are indifferent to his ruin, infact you seem to be rejoicing in it, yet he is supposed to care about your misery.
I guessed as much that the asbestos story was planted to make your last point. Not that the planters care about Tom and his family’s health.

Before tossing around words like indifferent and arrogant, I would suggest that you check to see just how much Tom Cruise has donated to various charities and works….He is far from arrogant and indifferent and much of that support is done without him blasting it from every which way.
Will Smith has a great comment on Tom, it’s this:

The Church of Scientology has nothing to do with the introduction of asbestos.

Asbestos is a mineral fiber that has been used commonly in a variety of building construction materials for insulation and as a fire-retardant. EPA and CPSC have banned several asbestos products. Manufacturers have also voluntarily limited uses of asbestos. Today, asbestos is most commonly found in older homes, in pipe and furnace insulation materials, asbestos shingles, millboard, textured paints and other coating materials, and floor tiles.

I’m sure we’ll hear soon enough whether the ship has been found to have been built with asbestos as well as if there are dangerous levels of it on board.
So who is Will Smith?
Lauren- just wondering, have you read anything about this CoS ship with the asbestos? Are you aware that the ship really does exist and there really IS asbestos on it. The ship was built back around 1960 when it was normal and okay to use blue asbestos. Everything would be okay now except that a few years ago the ship went in for some rehab. Following directions by the ships owners, the contractors opened up an area with the asbestos. When that happens the only thing ANYONE can do is properly remove the contamination. Well the cost was more then the cult was willing to pay so they have tried to “repair” it. Which is totally NOT possible to do.
Asbestos and air are kind of like Gremlins and water.
So what I am saying is NONE of this about the ship being out into dock because of asbestos is a “rumor”. It is all true.
What MIGHT be a rumor is whether or not KatIE and Suri are involved. We do know for sure that tc was exposed. There is video of him dancing and singing to PROVE it!
Julie, you should edit the other Mary’s post. It sounds to me like, she is just here to stir things up.
