Tom Cruise in New Star Trek Movie?
Will Tom Cruise have a role in the new Star Trek movie? There was a buzz about it because Tom visited the set.
“Tom visited the set of the movie and chatted with J.J. Abrams,” a source close to the actor said. The last time Cruise was spotted on a set for a movie he wasn’t said to be signed on for — “Tropic Thunder” — it turned out he had a small role. Unfortunately for Cruise fans, the visit to the “Star Trek” set was just a social call — Cruise and Abrams are friends, and apparently, Cruise is a fan of the television series and in particular, Dr. Spock.
“He asked J.J. if there’s a way he can meet Leonard Nimoy. He said he’d always really respected his work,” said the source.
Okay, so I guess that’s a no. Darn. I would have liked Tom Cruise in Star Trek. Maybe it would actually get me to go see it. LOL!

J.J. picked someone else to fill the role, the young Christopher Pike, in the new Star Trek movie. Honestly, Cruise being in the movie would have taken away from the other actors, who are the main characters. Unfortunately, many people are boycotting anything Cruise in it.
If you want to see/hear him in a Space flick, check your local planetarium or place where they show IMAX shows. He did the commentary for a show about the International Space Station.

I hope this is true. I would like Tom be in more movies. Unfortunately that is not so. But I heard he is going to have a cameo in Tropic thunder.

I always thought cameos were appearances of actors just playing themselves. (I can’t remember TC as ever being fat and bald normally) I had to look it up: That was the original meaning. Now it means just a brief appearance that is not cited. It is often meant as PR stunt.

Star Trek is filmed by Paramount and they did fire Cruise. I think Cruise was just making a social call.
