Tom Cruise Calls Sydney Pollack a Patient Man
(The picture above is of Tom Cruise and Sydney Pollack from 2000 at the 2nd Annual D.G.A. Honors.)
Director Sydney Pollack died Monday afternoon at age 73 from cancer. He was diagnosed about 9 months ago and was surrounded by his family at his home in LA when he passed.
Pollack has directed many A-listers, including Tom Cruise in “The Firm“. Tom has responded to the news of Pollack’s death saying that he was a “generous, patient and unpretentious man”.
Tom said that at the time he met Pollack, he had seen every single one of his movies and said that Pollack was very generous at that time with him.
“Years later, having lived through some short post schedules myself, I realized just how generous. He spent over six hours, with the patience of (biblical) Job, answering all my questions.”
“Throughout the years, unpretentious and never condescending, he shared with me what he loved about family, storytelling, food, flying and a great bottle of vino,” Cruise said. “He was a Renaissance man and a great friend. I will miss him dearly.”
Pollack also directed Nicole Kidman in “The Interpreter“.
There is an excellent article about Sydney Pollack here, that I would recommend reading. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family as they deal with this great loss. He was a great man and will be missed.

Tom Cruise is the best! I can’t wait to see pictures of him, and unfortunaly, we will probably see pictures of him at this upcoming funeral.

Didn’t he direct both Cruise and Kidman in EYES WIDE SHUT. I guess it is not PC to mention that…it might offend Katie.

OOps, he starred in that movie. He directed several of Kidman’s films, though. He also directed Cold Mountain, which Kidman starred in,

Annie, I guess that is the major fascination with Katie. What does she think and who is she really. Is she that sweet and nice even though she lives in the land of ego centric divas? How does she handle all the criticism and scrutiny? How does she fit into all this. Is she really happy? Is she obedient and meek or strong and defiant? She is a simple but very intriguing person.

Anon, I doubt Katie would be offended if TC mentioned Nicole. He has made it clear that he loves her more than he has ever loved Nicole. She also mentioned in an interview that she is very secure in his love.
R.I.P Sydney Pollack.

Sure, Tom and Nk had history together. I dont think Katie bother. Katie is very scure in Tom’s love and the kids are with them as family.
