Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes at Via Veneto
Via Veneto sure pulled in the A-listers last night! Via Veneto is a restaurant in Santa Monica and they hosted a birthday party for Victoria Beckham’s 34th birthday on Sunday night. Her actual birthday was April 17th. Just Jared has some fantastic photos of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise from the event. They both looked amazing and appear to be having a great time. Katie pulled out the Hollywood sunglasses for this event didn’t she? I’ve got to get me some of those and wear them at night like the stars do, lol!
SplashNewsOnline has a video of several of the celebs that attended the party. You can see Katie Holmes and Gwen Stefani chatting it up before they both get into their cars to leave.
It was good to see Tom and Katie attending a party for the Beckhams, which might settle some of the rumors that they aren’t friends anymore and it was also good to see Tom and Katie out together having a good time. I am not sure what I think about Katie’s dress. She does remind me of a young Jackie O in those pictures though. I don’t see a baby bump do you? :)

107 opinions for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes at Via Veneto

Yes Julie that dress and her outfit for the b-day party would evoke speculation on baby#2. But who knows.
I think she looks very pretty( and happy:) ).
I love yellow! But the dress is a bit matronly, does anyone agree?
Of course, I think Tom looks HOT as usual.

Kelly: I think the dress and the sun glasses look matronly. It has been commented that she is going for the Jackie O. look, but Jackie was in her forties when she looked like that.
The dress does absolutely nothing except make her look closer to TC’s age.
Either way, don’t care for the dress period. I am a very simple kind of gal. KH had a simple elegance a year or two ago, and she has gotten away from it.

Although I do not get the sunglasses at night thing- maybe it is to keep from being blinded by all the flashes?-I absolutely love the shoes. And I also like the dress, don’t shoot me LOL It might be a little Jackie O’ish but I thought she looked rather classy. Since she and VB had lunch recently, I did not believe the break up rumors although it does seem as if for her casual party, VB had a whole different set of friends. This looks like the ‘hollywood’ gig. Maybe TC and KH couldn’t make it to the other one for some reason??

I looooooooove her shoes. I am also through with defending them. I have decided that whatever people say, they are happy. Look at those pictures. I think am better off enjoying the pictures than trying to push a horse through a niddle hole or strangle and elephant with a thread. Some speculations is too bizarre for me.
Trust VB to go all the way, and there I was thinking she was going to settle for a little family do. LOL.

I think katie is happy to be able to get out and chat with a hopeful set of new friends.
I like the shoes but I don’t think I’d were them with that style of dress.
Would of loved to of been a fly on the wall during a “powder my nose” break!!! haha

Ya know P.Happy…Upon further reflection I think your right….those shoes are not made for that dress…the dress is too Jackie O, vintage etc. and the shoes are Carmen Electra like!!

the same brilliance with beauty.

I think she is happy because she is happy period. They do look very nice. Remember she does not get to listened to all the negative attacks. George Clooney said he is off the internet and tabloids because they are full of angry people. LOL. He would rather believe every one is happy and nasty people like that don’t exist. Good philosophy I say.

Since this won’t post in the other area because some here can’t handle a mature discussion, here is my comment from the Madonna piece:
Tuna and the rest:
You missed my point completely. First, Cruise has only been made fun of. HE HAS NEVER BEEN BULLIED!! I have never heard of him being physically threatened and physically attacked. There is a huge difference!!!
Second, Cruise can stick his head back in the COS Scientology and family sand and get away from what he his ’suffering’. And according to the pics, HE IS NOT SUFFERING.
Those orphans HAVE TO DIE TO GET AWAY FROM THEIR SUFFERING!!!!! THEY WILL GO TO BED HUNGRY, THEY WILL PROBABLY DIE BY AGE 45 (life expectancy is 47 years in Malawi), suffer war and disease, most likely never learn to read, will probably bury the majority of the children, not find a job, most likely contract AIDS (if they did not get it from their moms already), HAVE NO PARENTS TO LOVE THEM, etc. Read the statistics on any African country and Cruise’s suffering, and your own, will pale in comparison.
The problem we all suffer here is that we are writng our comments from the top 10% of the world’s wealth tier. If you don’t believe me, make your check marks against the following list. YOU ONLY NEED THREE OF THE FIVE to be in the TOP 10% OF THE WORLD’s WEALTH TIER:
1) running water (NOte: not hot and cold, just clean water)
2) Mode of transportation (Note: Donkey, horse, cart, bike, subway, OR car).
3) ONE change of underwear.
4) Choice of what you will eat at the next meal.
5) some kind of shelter/home (Note: Not a Beverly Hills mansion–a shack will suffice).
I think Cruise can easily say he has all five, just like the rest of us. Madonna was marginalizing these orphans because if they are lucky, they will have one of the above mentioned. They are the poorest of the poor in our world. We also have not added all the other little perks we all have to: access to great health care, stable income, education, freedom from constant warfare, freedom of speech, belief, etc.
I think poor little TC can handle a little making fun of in the press because he doesn’t have to fight daily for his survival nor does he have to watch his kids starve to death.
In terms of the jealousy thing that Lauren and Hana like to throw out. None here–I am a very blessed woman with three beautiful healthy children and wonderful husband by my side.
Maybe Lauren and Hana, you need to ask yourselves why you have to vehemently attack other posters here. How sad your identity is tied to defending someone who doesn’t know or care you exist!!

TC has been threatened, called more hated than Saddam Hussein, attacked at the premiere of his movie in Leicester square by a prankster, that is bullying! His kid has been called names. His wife has been called names. Blatant lies have been spread about him.
Right on Hana. At least am not sad enough yet to attack someone who does not know I exist as a pass time. Visiting his fan site every day to have a go at him and his family. Now that is SAD!

Tyler, am trying but unfairness never bodes well with me. So yes when people are unfair to Tommy, I will point this out.
Lauren
Apr 22, 2008 at 10:05 am
TC is a strong person, it does not mean any one has a right to bully and harrass him and his wife. And it is bullying if you try to persuade people to dislike someone as some people’s sole purpose is here. Heath Ledger lost his life, he was not bullied but he had problems, he did not have to be an African kid to be desperate.
Yes TC gets a raw deal especially since he is a better person done most of his critics will ever be. How else do you explain a reproduction of four year old videos out of context for the sole purpose of ridiculing someone?

If you take yourself too seriously on these blogs, you might make yourself ill. I think that Julie has done a great job of bringing in different topics for discussion. I think she knows that their are going to be differences of opinion on many of them. I enjoy the pictures and post comments at various times. I believe that we should all be allowed to express our opinions respectfully, and no we all should not have to agree, what’s fun and thought-provoking about that? Once again, why can’t we all agree to disagree and keep things moving on? It shouldn’t matter whether you’re a non fan or fan. I know, you’re probably saying, “Shut up Doug.” Well, I think I’ll do that.

I just want to say Happy Earth Day everyone!! I know this is “off topic” but thought it worth a mention. Today would be a good day to start recycling if you don’t already. If your community doesn’t have curbside recycling there is still a lot you can do. Next time you have to replace your washer or dryer buy high-efficiency ones if you can. Turn your dishwasher setting to water miser and don’t always use heated drying. Buy those funny shaped lightbulbs that use less energy and last longer. Turn your thermostat down at night and don’t leave lights on when it is sunny. Ok…I will get off my soapbox now. Take care everyone!!

Lauren:
Three comments and then I will let this rest because I come here for mindless break. I respect Tyler when he said we need get over this!!
1) You say unfairness never bodes well with you. How about how unfair and insulting you are to us? You know nothing about us, yet you still persist in insulting everyone and condemning everyone who won’t worship you and Tom Cruise. (By your definition, you are the site BULLY!!) How about how unfair it is that there are kids in this world growing up with no hope for a descent future and a meal…some of whom live a few short miles from Cruise and his family?
2) You say Cruise is a great man to still be happy despite all the rumors. Isn’t it insulting to Cruise and his family that his fans treat him like a victim rather than acknowledge him for what he has done? As someone who has been bullied and insulted, I found it more insulting when people acknowledged me only for my hurts (victimhood) rather than my accomplishments. And i will admit, Cruise has some accomplishments that are worth mentioning.
I like what Clooney said–Just make a joke about it. Or as Jolie has said–If it is not in the NEW YORK TIMES, it is not true and not worth reading.
3) You demand we respect Cruise for his beliefs, yet condemn everyone who doesn’t agree with you.
Please, let us have our opinions and you can have yours about Cruise. Personally, it won’t change my life or how I do things. Also, I doubt any star in Hollywood really cares about fans so long as we keep paying them money.

Doug: The voice of reason???
Seriously, this is all mindless entertainment. We shouldn’t take these two or the posting seriously! I think I should go back to treating this whole thing like a joke…because it is all a show for our benefit. I think we all need to remember that these two are actors and this how their money is made and their movies are sold.

I agree with your posts. Why do some people on this site seem to get SO angry just because someone comes along with a different point of view. You don’t even have to call anyone a name or out of their name to get slammed. Look, I said this from the beginning. I don’t dislike these people, but I don’t worship them either, but I think I just as others have the right to their opinions, even if it’s not the status quo. We shouldn’t have to walk on eggshells here, it’s not a serious life or death situation. I’m Tom and Katie are doing just fine no matter what we say or don’t say on this site.

Darin,
I’m not Julie’s boyfriend. I’m not here taking sides. All I’m saying is that this site should be labeled “for entertainment purposes only” as No One Special very nicely put it. Why some people get really worked up, I’ll never understand. If someone doesn’t agree with me or has an opposing opinion, what good does it do me to let my blood pressure be raised and go through the roof when I can just let it go and move on and let things move along instead of getting stuck in a rut. I for one love the conversation on this site. I’m GLAD everyone expresses their own opinion. As long as people do it respectfully, why crucify each other? Makes no sense.

Lauren, I find it rather interesting that you state in one post that you know they are happy so you are just going to let the rest go and then a few minutes later, you are ranting again. Please get over the fact that there are going to be different opinions expressed on this board. Frankly, TC is busy living his life, spending time with his family. etc. And as far as I know your “Tommy” could care less about the total love and adoration you have for him or the indifference I have. As long as people show up and pay for the movie tickets, he is going to keep right on living his life, etc. You don’t get the fact that you are the bully here. I haven’t ranted and raved at all the things you say like you have me. It is called differences of opinion, dear. Both sides of the spectrum are neither good or bad. They just are different. No harm done either way.

Lauren,
Having both my parents born in Nigeria and being Nigerian, I KNOW that you don’t have to be an African kid to be desperate. But in my parents’ homeland, there are plenty of families and children who define the word DESPERATE. They don’t make millions of dollars a year or have any of the amenities that we take for granted. I’ve been home and REALLY saw desperate staring me in the eyes with children dying all around me and young women and men ravaged by AIDS on their deathbeds. I’m sorry if I can’t seem to put Tom Cruise in the same category as these people.

All the comments and specualtions make me dizzy. Clearly these are two very happy people in love with eachother, true love. They dress impeccably and with class. They are perfect. I would imagine in time they will run for office. Since KH clearly has Jackie O.’s qualities 100% she may become first lady. She shouldn’t waste her time on Broadway. True amazing perfection, I am so happy for them. He has the power to lead our world and cure all woes, didn’t he say so? So I feel we should honor TomKat, no more criticism, they have my vote.

Carmen, that is just so sad. It is sad that there are so many places in the world where sickness, and aids, and hunger and so much else exists. In the times we live in, I don’t believe that any child anywhere should go hungry or be at risk healthwise because of their water supply or as in the Sudan, be like the Lost Boys, Or like in India, be sold into prostitution, Even in the U.S there are kids going to bed-if they have one-hungry and desperate. Feed the Children does programs from all over the world, but recently I saw one filmed in the mountains of TN or KY where the people just don’t have any work and their kids go to bed hungry. Heartbreaking. No wonder the rest of the world looks at America and if they make an opinion about us thru our Celebs-spending thousands of dollars on a pair of shoes or a purse. It would seem completely arrogant and nsane to them. I am sure most celebs give back quite a bit too. And I know that most people as soon as they know of a specific need will try to help out somehow in it. Nigeria must be in much the same boat as places like Uganda where only the old people and the younger children are basically left. Check out the Children’s African Choir or Lost Boys of the Sudan. These are some agencies that are very helpful. I don’t know of any in Nigeria, if you do, please share.

When someone shared that list with me about what it takes to be in the top 10% of the world’s wealth, I realized how much I really had.
Here it is again:

agreee with carmen, nos, concerned mom……
the world is NOT getting richer as americans especeially like to think….. world slavery is at an all-time high, yes SLAVERY, and rising food prices due to combination of factors threaten starvation on the world’s poor….. the rich are getting richer, the poor poorer…..
even the U.S. has a lot of economic struggles now……..
lauren, if tom cruise could SAVE THE WORLD, he has my utmost respect and admiration. but to me he is just a movie star, and i honestly do not see how being a movie star can save the world, especially when being one entails living in luxe the way he’s been doing since katie and probably drains the world of more resources….appearances are important to an extent, but i’d like to hear something substantial once in a while spoke from his lips — like johnny depp, brad pitt, george clooney, matt damon, anthony hopkins……….

Tom tells us he can cure all the woes of the world, so let’s support him in doing it, maybe he is like the Messiah. They are so happy and living in perfection, so maybe they would really want to help others live in such ultimate happiness as theirs. He is an actor but he says he is more, he has super powers.

If Katie wants a $5,000 cake for her daughter and designer clothes, a 30 million dollar home for herself, what’s wrong with that? is it her responsiblity that people blocks away from her are starving, dying and have no health care? She is a special, amazing celebrity, why is this her problem? She clearly doesn’t care so, should she?

Thanks every one for the advice. I hope you take some of it else where you post before coming here to put on facades. Most of you are decrying the plight of African kids (I lived in Uganda, Kampala, Mukono, Kabale, Kamuli for 6 years doing charity and trying to help HIV kids) so I know first hand what goes on and I have at least done my part to help. Most of you spend more time on the internet jumping from site to site writing sick conspiracies about TC and his family. Now you put on a holier than thou attitude about the plight of Africans. Well am not buying your patronising ‘concern’. But thanks for at least saying some sense other than ‘Katie’s dress makes her look 50 and Suri’s cake is for an adult’.
Of course I would rather not spend my time here defending these people, they are humans like us, and though they may not read these stuff, it is brainwashing someone out there who may seek to harm them. Any life is important whether it is a priviledged movie star or a sick African child.
Notice that this is a Tomkat fansite and whereas we fans appreciate any effort to help the world’s poor, there are sites for that kind of thing. No, am not being mean, because I run one for Ugandan youth and AIDs (UTAA). This site is for Tom and Katie.

Concerned mom, TC has more tolerance of the public and the press than George Clooney. Clooney has even walked out on a press conference and angrily asked one reporter how many movies he has directed when he was told his movie was not doing well.
Brad has also lost his cool with the paps and with good reason. I remember an incident last year at the plan B studios. Every one agrees that TC is the coolest when dealing with paps and the public. Somethings you just can’t laugh off.

I’m quoting what No One Special said, “You missed my point completely. First, Cruise has only been made fun of. HE HAS NEVER BEEN BULLIED!!”
HERE are some definition of BULLYING:
1.Bullying is the act of intentionally causing harm to others, through VERBAL harassment, physical assault, or other more subtle methods of coercion such as manipulation. Bullying can be defined in many different ways.
2.Cyber bullying (over the internet) is sending or posting a harmful or cruel text or image using the internet or other digital communication devices. Cyber bullying can include creating websites that have stories, pictures and jokes that ridicule others based on hatred or bias.
*So, you don’t think some of the stuff that has been said and done to the Cruise family is bullying? If some of this stuff was said about any of the youngsters celebs they will go crazy like Ms Briteny.
Do you think the tabs and bloggers were making fun of the Cruise family when they were writing and saying and stating it as a FACT, Katie is not pregnant (its fake to dupe the public), Katie’s impregnated by her exes, Katie has PPD……Suri doesn’t exist, she is an Alien, she is disabled and disfigured. Everything that was written/said about the Cruise’s was not making fun of them but they were very harmful and to the point they were actually harassed!
Lauren
Apr 23, 2008 at 8:02 am
Excellent point Tia. You find these people wanting fairness yet do not have any qualms about what they are doing to TC and Katie. They cry when the obvious is pointed out but some of these people are writers and run sites that do these despicable things.
And those who demand respect should first respect themselves. Constantly ridiculing another person or spending most of your time harrasing strangers does not earn you respect at all. In time it is even going to harm your message against scientology. I for one stopped listening to those crusading against scientology, not because I think it is a nice faith, but because I cannot stand their underhanded tactics, bullying and harrassment. The apple does not fall far from its tree.

Lauren: I believe Brad lost his temper with the paps because they were harassing him and his kids on a family outing. I believe he shoved the cameraman away because the kids were scared by the paps. Personally, I would too!!
Cruise also is notorious for pre-approving any questions he is asked in an interview before he does the interview. He will not walk into an interview cold and answer whatever comes up. After the way he treated Matt Lauer over the psychology thing, I would say as long as you stick to neutral things, Cruise will be amiable.
I read in PEOPLE an article about those who love the limelight and those who don’t. They had TC and KH at the top of the loving it list with note that it also includes times when little Suri is with them.

Tia and Lauren. I visited the Pittwatch site yesterday to see how the discussions go over there as they are also a couple that are constantly in the media. The discussions go both ways over there as well. And there as well as here, the rudest people seem to be the totally over the top fans. Please quit dwelling on the past and get back to how great they look, how in love they look, how wonderful and amazing they are. Just know that not everyone has those opinions. I would like to see everyone take it back to friendly and titillating conversation. If something said bothers you, comment on it and move on because at the end of the day, it is not going to affect or change TC’s life in ANY way. This site is for gossip and discussion and fun. It is not rocket-science or save the world important. Be nice.

I’m not surprised by Jen and Ben and even Tom and Katie but I would have thought famous people like the Beckhams, Or Branglina, Eva Longoria, Heidi Klum and family, or even Gwen Stefani who are constantly in the public eye more than the TK will be on top of the list.

Julie, am sorry for making your work tough. I promise to get better.
NOS, I supported Brad Pitt for that attack, just like I supported TC for his response to the water squirt. I doubt any one would have been cool, calm and collected about such a thing. I don’t see Clooney laughing about it. Russel Crowe would have punched him LOL.
All am saying is that these stars are human and sometimes things get too far.
As for loving the media, I remember Brad Pitt saying it is a game and those who don’t want to play should quit. It is a sentiment I share 100%. I never understand celebrities who are always looking grouchy. This is not the industry for them. I guess some people just want to act and the fame and glitz are unwanted extras. But you have to balance the two.
It is better you stop, pose, greet the paps and move on. Or just don’t go to Ivy’s.

P.S. Please try to read my comment in a soft tone. I know you are used to my harsh tones. But that one was in a soft one.
I think Posh should be on top of the list. I like Heidi Klum’s attitude, she just gets on with it. Her husband though seems to hate it. Brangelina got tired of it lately but they ravelled in it. Tom and Katie sell magazines so are easily missed when they don’t come out even for two weeks. Tom loves the limelight, I doubt Katie loves it a lot.

Mary: Thanks for finding it!!
Suellen: I think it all goes with being a member of the human race. To quote a scripture: Where much is given, much is required.
Also, Cruise wants to save the world. You can’t save someone spiritually, what he wants to do, if they are starving and trying to live; and they see you as a glutton and stuck-up snob. You take care of the physical needs before you can the spiritual needs. In other words, why can’t Cruise do something more than rescue stranded motorist who are ALREADY BEING HELPED by the police? He wants to help so badly, so lets see him put his money where his mouth is. Holding fundraisers for his Church and their programs is not the same as coughing up the dough himself and getting your hands dirty. I find it hilarious when celebs host these ‘charity events’ and we the peons are expected to donate, and then they think they are so great. Hey, I could put on $40,000 dress, get my pic in the paper, and eat a fancy dinner if that is all it takes to make one generous.
You can’t be kind, amazing, to quote Cruise ‘Just like everybody else,’ and generous and not care. Also, it is those people, who are and will be struggling, that will make or break their movies in the box office in the future. And they will be turned off by SNOBS! It has happened in the past with sports stars and celebrities.
As the economy gets worse, people are going to turn on the outlandish snobs because all they will see is that they are struggling and the movie stars like the Cruises are living it up.
We had a professional basketball player here that when the economy went bad five years ago was talking about ’struggling on his income.’ He made in one night what most here made in a year!! He had such a backlash that when he transferred to another team a year later, we were all happy to see his spoiled butt leave. Also, ticket sales to the games went down.
Your right, she can do whatever she wants, but we are paying for her lifestyle by going to hers and Cruise’s movies. If people see them as snobs who look down on people, they may think twice before going and filling their coffers.

nos, i have to concur with a lot of what you write.
in response to an attack, i’d say no that i don’t come onto this site EVERY DAY EVERY HOUR to attack the cruises. i come and browse this site IRREGULARLY, from time to time, and have gone weeks without it.
anyhow, living the big luxurious life is fine so long as no one else is getting a ‘raw deal’ from it. but honestly, isn’t the planet all interconnected now, especially with global trades and all going on? fruits, sugars, coffee, cotton mostly from the third world countries. and with the amount of publicity tom cruise has ‘earned’ over the years, i think he could be using that fame in more constructive ways — even though the whole celebrity charity fad i find quite silly……
honestly, i do respect tom as an actor, though lately, i’m not so sure. his third wife, however, i have no respect as an actress, in fact she puts me off……….
AND, there are many many amazing fashion trendsetters and acknowledged fashionistas who can exude more fashion through theri little finger than kh can with movie star husband’s credit card….. taste is something you just don’t buy.

well put jajorge! I am online at work AND at home and my kids are raised so I have time to burn out here on the net so some probably think I live here. LOL I don’t think it is a matter of ‘jealousy’ for what they have. Frankly, it doesn’t matter how much money someone has, most people have the same type of problems no matter how big their house is. We all could probably give more to charitable causes. But the light is shone on celebrities more and what they give or don’t give.
By the way, there is an article at this British mag called nowmagazine under celeb news that has a story about Tom hiring a Sushi Chef for Katie to tempt her to eat more. He is concerned about her weight. His concern about it before they got married probably led to her over-doing the losing weight thing and now he is concerned she is too thin. I wonder when he will just let her be herself whatever weight she is comfortable with??
By the way, did anyone notice that everyone else at this party had on black and white? They seem to be the only 2 people in all the pics that are dressed differently.

I think it is absurd to discuss the horrid state of the world, politics, HIV epidemic, unemployment, on this site. Kate and Tom don’t appear to give a hoot, they flaunt their extravagzas, their millions.
I feel it is a humanitarian insult to bring such profound global travesties to a comic book site such as this, basically a site which is in a fantasy.
I doubt Katie knows where Africa is, just the Armani store. Would she even care?

CM, I noticed the dress theme of the VB birthday party was Black and White.
I just can’t imagine that tom would totally disregard a birthday wish for his wife’s BFF.
Or that even katie would over look such a detail for her super close friend.
I mean that would be SO deliberate and rude to do.
I bet that tc and kh were at the restaurant for another party or even for a private date night and the paps just thought they were there for VB.

Perhaps before implying that Katie knows nothing about about the plight of the less fortunate and cares even less many of you would benefit from knowing just how active her parents are in their community and made sure that their children were as well.
Also Tom Cruise has donated much of his millions to causes and without a whole lot of fanfair. For example he has been involved in Mentor LA for years.

Yes, Tom Cruise is quite involved with that program and has even been honored by that organization for all the money he has poured into it. I am going to say that because he credits the CoS with ‘curing’ his dyslexia that this organization is church based. Now before you bite my head off, this is my opinion about the rich and famous and charity. That is a cause that is of course close to his heart so he gives to it. Fine. Like I said, he has earned his money and can spend it any way he chooses. Barbara you have a point and we all have an opinion. Tom is definitely proof of the saying, “Put your money where your mouth is”. What is he a spokesperson for? Well that is where his money is as well. All of the people who are part of the CoS don’t have near the priviledged life he leads. It is far far different for the ‘regular’ folks.Brad Pitt puts his money into helping the people of New Orleans rebuild their homes and lives, Sandra Bullock quietly gave over a $million right after 9/11 to the 9/11 fund. There are plenty of famous and rich people giving of themselves and their resources.

Puck, so you saw all the pictures from the party for VB as well? I was looking through them and then I started thinking wow these couples are all coordinated. Who does that? Then I realized they were ALL in black and white, except of course Tom and Katie. Good thing they didn’t show up at Diddy’s all white party-was it last year? He tossed a few very famous people who didn’t wear all white. Cream didn’t even make it into his party..LOL

CM: Sandra Bullock did gave money after 9/11 but it was definitely NOT quietly, if it was you wouldn’t hear about it or she wouldn’t get an award for it!!
Some celebs do give to charity but they don’t publicize it. We know Tom does contribute to charity but he DOESN’T have to be a spokes person for it!!! How about the rest of the big A-list actors, do you hear about their charity? Some yes, some NOT but do they contribute, of course even if its not to help they do it for tax reason!
Just because some of them don’t go and tell PEOPLE they donating $100k for a charity before even giving the money doesn’t mean everyone does it the same way!
The Bible tells us to give and do so quietly and without boastfullness.
A while back I read an article from about just some of the charitable and humanitarian celebrities who do good deeds and work for good causes. Many of them had been doing what they are doing for years, for a lot longer than Branglina or NK has been working with the United Nations. The article noted that most of them do so quietly, inconspicuously, often even anonymously, without all this fanfare and without needing to run to the media with every $100,000 drop in the bucket.

Rumor has it that Mentor LA is a front group for Scientology. Could be/couldn’t be?
Either way, it is easy to donate money and quite another to get your hands your hands dirty help real people in need. I think all of Hollywood needs to get their clean delicate hands dirty and get out and interact with the world a little more. See how the other side lives and understand their struggles.
Jolie can honestly say she does this.
You just don’t see many celebs doing that. They throw the money at the cause and dress up in their expensive dresses (another excuse for some to shop and parade their fashion) to host charity dinners to ‘look good’, but I believe they also do it for the tax deduction.
imo
Apr 24, 2008 at 8:39 am
I agree with no one special about it being easy to donate money and another thing to actually get your hands dirty helping people. But this isn’t true for just celebrities. It goes for all human beings. I think that every person could really learn something from seeing firsthand how hard some have it in life. It might make us less selfish and self-centered.

Sandra Bullock gave a million, we all knew about that but at least she did not do it right before her movie was coming out like some stars I will not mention.
Tom does a lot for charity and if it is linked to his beliefs that is his choice. Spielberg gives a lot to the Jewish community, I don’t hear any one complaining. Did you know that Britney Spears gives more to charity than brangelina combined? Which charity is Will Smith linked to? TC has mentor LA whose board members are by the way not scientologists.
Some stars will not go on and on about it. Yes it is OK to mention that you have helped people in order to inspire others to do the same but let’s face it, charity has become a way of some stars cleaning up their image and raising their profile. And lets not forget cut down their tax liability.
Many people have said they have been helped by Tom’s efforts for the 9/11 firemen. His beliefs are not important, what is important is that he helped them and they did not have to convert to scientology. Let’s not forget that he adopted two kids and he does not go telling everyone what a rainbow family he has or that he is going to adopt another black child for Connor.
He has built schools to help stamp out illetracy in the US, he just doesn’t go on and on about it when promoting his movies. Besides, it is his money and his to spend. How many billionaires does the world have? How much do they give? Most of the people complaining do not see his movies anyway, fans should complain more in that case.
Tia,
why did you bother replying such childish observations. My hope was we would just ignore that.

Why does it matter if people help by donating and not get their hands dirty? Yes, some celebrities have enough time to do it and some don’t….do all of them have to do what the other one does?
Why are you comparing Angelina to Tom and Katie? Is this another way for the non-fans/closet-fans to make less of what Tom and Katie do? Angelina does her thing they do their thing. If we all did the same thing the world will be boring.
Paul Newman is one of my all time favourite actor and he does it his way.
Actually, I rather celebrity give money and help behind close doors rather than in front of the camera, I certainly don’t want Tom or Katie to do that because not only people will start to say its for publicity but it just takes away from the whole charity thing for getting credit for it.
People said Branglina were only donating so publicly for publicity and for public to like them.
Last year the British media did a poll asking people if they were influenced by celebrities, they had different questions whether if people will buy something because celebrity was endorsing it or adopt a child from Africa or if they will vote for a certain political party because of a celeb and it wasn’t in favour of the celebrity.

Personally, I don’t care much about what these rich and famous folks spend their money on. There are many celebs who quietly give back without any recognition so it is difficult really to say who is and is not ‘helping’ I think TC is just in discussion right now about this because of the total excessive way he has been living. I liked him better when he kept his private life private. I am pretty sure he lived much the same way as now, it just wasn’t in our faces all the time.
And Hana-Ana, nope didn’t get that one about touching the belly from Lib but thanks for once again including her in conversation over here. How long has it been since she was here now over a month or two? And yet you are still dwelling on what she might have or might not have said. Have you ever seen the movie ‘anger management’? I loved it. The main character learned to not take himself so seriously.

I don’t see TC as living excessively………..He and his wife bought a house ( a rather expensive home but a home nonetheless.) He had been renting for years prior and even after marriage he and Katie still lived in that rented home. It was way past time that he owned a home.
Except for this new home much of TC’s other things were purchased years ago…………The home in Telluride, the private plane, etc.
If you’re talking about his previous marriages those were definitely low key compared to his wedding to Katie and even he in interviews didn’t realize so much went into planning a wedding. As be said though, it may have seemed big to the outside world but it was intimate to them and really 150 people or so is small………..I have attended friends weddings and between the bride and the groom’s families alone not including colleagues it was a fight to get it below 300.

Mary, I liked the people article. About TC renting a home tho. That isn’t your run of the mill rental and I think TC rented it because he was often on movie locations and traveling the world. But the rent on that home was something like $100 grand a month. And of course he has his 10,000 sq foot home in ASPEN. plus a number of luxe airplanes, motorcycles, etc. And the new home which cost reportedly around $30 milion and from pictures looked like it was already decorated rather fancy but they are spending another $15-20 refurbishing it. I would say a 1500 sq foot closet with supposed gold hangers is a bit much-sort oof on par with the one Tori Spelling had in the Spelling mansion. Personally I am tired of talking about his lifestyle-I don’t admire it and think it is excessive, but the man made the money and is spending it as he sees fit. He better get some hit movies coming out of UA company tho if he wants to maintain that lifestyle.

wow puck didn’t know that. Well I think that the marriages made in hollywood that actually have a chance are the ones where the people don’t take themselves too seriously AND they stay out for the most part of the whole Hollywood lifestyle and fishbowl existence. Even Julia Roberts has for the most part removed herself from Hollywood and seems to live a sort of normal life in New Mexico–not one of the ‘hot and trendy’ spots for sure. Don’t know if her marriage is gonna last or not, but removing the Hollywood element sure helps the chances.

You don’t have to know Tom’s accountant to know that he bought most of his planes, houses etc years ago. Yes tabloids may love telling stories but fo those of use who have followed his career for a while, you listen to him during interviews and that is not heresay.
When did Julia Roberts last have a hit? Careers have ups and downs, hers is not exactly up. Rememebr the Vera saga did not exactly improve her image. She has nothing fascinating about her or newsworthy. If she did, am sure you would be on her website as an interested fan or non fan like you come here.
Rich people make their money to enjoy it first not to give to charity. Bullock and her husband do not have quarter the money TC has, so they can as well fly commercial because that is what they can afford. If I had money, I would buy a plane. Well I don’t and good for those who do. It is their choice whether or not to give to charity and if they do, whether or not to tell us about it. I would though recommend doing using time to do charity than hound TC and concocting conspiracy theories.

Julia Roberts is a great actress and doesn’t seem to be one of those celebs who seeks the spotlight. Doesn’t she actually live in New Mexico away from the drama of Hollywood? You hardly ever see her in the news because she doesn’t seek it. I think it is unkind of people to belittle her here just because they can. It doesn’t make it any better than those who say unkind things about Katie or Tom. Anyway…why is she even brought up here on a TomKat site?

In other words, they are very self-centered people. Thanks for clarifying that! I think with that comment Lauren, you proved our point about how self-centered Cruise and Holmes are.
Oh, and by the way, Cruise is still buying airplanes plus he still has maintance and rental fees to house all those planes. He reportedly spent $1 million on jet fuel alone last year. That is a lot money going out right there.

Let me get this straight.. You think that Sandra Bullock is poor?? So she flies commercial?? That is highly entertaining Lauren. How about maybe she is 1) not totally full of herself and 2)conscious of the environment and doesn’t want to spend the money to fly around on a private jet? Actually I do like Sandra Bullock and her lifestyle seems to be more normal then some of these other Hollyweird folks.
And by the way, wasn’t tommyboy one of the first to get that very exclusive very very expensive motorcycle?? Oh yes that is right, yes he was. And last year or so, I think he bought a new plane. And at the current moment he is shelling out $15-20 million dollars to redo a house that already was elegant and luxe. And that house cost something to the tune of $35 million. In my opinion, once again, he has the money and if wants to live excessively and in a look at me fashion, he has that right.
One thing Lauren, youi notice I didn’t attack you back here?? I wish you would somehow be able to worship TC while not personally attacking people who don’t feel exactly the same way. Once again we aren’t here to save the world.

With all due respect, if people here are hounding celebrities, then so are you, since you know everything down to their finances.
Who knows how Sandra Bullock lives since she’s such a private person?
I believe Katie’s shopping addiction brought out the materialistic nature of this family. That’s all people see so they assume that’s all there to it, which of course can’t be the case.
Besides, all rich people give to charity, for tax write offs if nothing else.

Sandra Bullock is a wonderful actress in my opinion. She may not have the money that Cruise has, but I don’t think she anywhere near the POORHOUSE. Besides making movies, she’s produced shows such as George Lopez, and I bet she didn’t get peanuts for it. She most likely flies commercial by CHOICE. As Puck stated, there are many celeberties who have plenty of money that choose to fly commericial and all of those probably don’t always go first-class, although many do.
