Tom and Katie Feel Privacy Rights Were Violated

I am sure by now most of you have heard about the whole Petit Tresor issue that has come up. For those of you who haven’t, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have been in contact with their lawyers regarding a statement that was released by the popular boutique Petit Tresor. The statement that was released said that Tom and Katie spend anywhere from $350,000 to $400,000 on clothes for Suri within the past two years.

Tom and Katie are saying that the statement is false, but regardless of whether it’s true or not, they feel that their privacy rights have been violated. They have had their lawyers ask Petit Tresor to “not say anything (whether true or false) about Mr. Cruise and Ms. Holmes’ shopping habits.”

I would have to agree with Tom and Katie that their rights were violated. Everyone’s shopping habits should be kept private.  That’s personal information and basically nobody’s business, imho.

I think Petit Tresor keeps lieing about a lot of celebrites, but Tomkat sent a letter because, in their case, the tabloids use it to make people hate them. Like, if people read that they spent an amount that sounds large, then people start attacking them and saying how they spend lavishly, and just use it as another excuse to hate on them.

  2. Tuna Subway says:

I mean with this couple, whatever they do is remembered for ages, but when some other celebrites do things, news articles don’t drag it on, it’s forgotten in a few months.

  3. tyler says:

So tuna, you don’t believe they did it because it invaded their privacy? You say it was because they assume more people will dislike them?

  4. Grete says:

They want to hide Kate’s shopping addiction and how much Tom’s money she spent.
Katie wants Suri to be fashion icon – instead of let her be in casual dress for playing. The last normal dress Suri had in Germany, when playing in Tiergarten. After that she is always dressed like princess and can’t behave like a normal kid in her age.

  5. Anon says:

Grete: Agree! They are trying to hide KH’s shopping addiction. Are they going after Barney’s and Nieman Marcus next because they publish how much Katie spends there…and it is more than $350,000.

  6. Hana says:

I agree their rights were violated. Petit Tresor are on the record saying that they don’t talk about clients as its a company policy but it looks like they didn’t tell all their staffs about their company policy. And they actually lied about the figures.

Also according to the store owner the $350k-$400k was false……
“Samantha Winch who reached out and made peace, the amount spent at the store, Winch said that Cruise and Holmes have spent significantly less than the reported amount.”

  7. Lilianne says:

I personally don’t see why they would care if people knew how much money they spent on clothes (or did not spend) unless they were embarrassed at they amount? Maybe it is noone’s business but stuff like that comes out all the time about other celebs and you don’t see them threatening to sue. I think it is all a silly waste of time.

  8. Hana says:

Lilianne, they didn’t threaten to sue! They simple asked them to stop giving false info about them to the media.

I think its about time they did this….the tabs have been making up just about anything about them for a while now and I hope this will be a warning to everyone.

  9. Lauren says:

I am so sure that if any one here heard their bill explained to the fellow shoppers at a department store they would be pissed. Why should Tom and Katie be different especially if the store is telling lies? If they wanted to hide Katie’s shopping habits why not tell her to shop on line instead? of have assistants bering in stuff foe her to try on at home?

  10. Lauren says:

    * sorry for the last line too many typos,

Or have assistants bring in stuff for her to try on at home.

  11. Annie says:

petit tresor has been on every celeb show telling and showing everthing katie has bought for suri.@ the cost of each item……..suris high chair is so petty…….it,s a1950;s inspired high chair with pretty pictures on it ….if i remember correctly it was 450.dollars……petit tresor showed heaps of things…..it was on ‘the insider’ celeb show……..they would’t show the world what you @i bought, so why tom @katie ?

  12. Annie says:

sorry, i meant to say pretty not petty ………i know this is going to sound dopey ….but what is an s.p.

  13. taralexis says:

They are using Tom and Katie to sell more stuff. That is it, end of story. And sadly, in society, if a celeb has it, everyone wants it! They had no business saying anything at all. Usually, when you are a valued customer, you value not only the product and services, but also your privacy to spend how you would like. TomKat should just stop shopping there, and the lesson will be learned.

  14. Lilianne says:

Ok..are we splitting hairs here? So maybe the story on this site does not say “take legal action” but if you google Katie Holmes then an article pops up about this story where they do use the words “take legal action” which means…suing someone no? Even if those words do NOT show up regarding this situation it is clear to me that taking legal action (suing) is the implied intent anyway. Why would anyone have their representatives contact a store telling them they are unhappy about the shopping details being leaked if they were happy about the situation and the obvious conclusion that can be made is that legal action will be taken if this situation does not stop. I may not be a lawyer but even I know this.

For some reason my posts are not showing up so I’ll try one more time.

Lilianne, we should know by the media/bloggers make up exaggerate the facts.

Why don’t you just read the original statement from TK’s representative.
I tried to post the link for the statement but its not showing up.

You can find the original statement on TMZ.

Someone printed a figure of around $1 million that Katie spent on Christmas.. These publications are called tabloids not newspapers because they spew out all kinds gossip and stories. If they are suing or taking legal action over this story but not so many of the others, does that lend truth to the other junk out there?? Interesting that THIS is the story they choose to jump on.

  18. Marie says:

    Oh boo hoo to TC.

  19. Anon says:

How come they are not going after Nieman Marcus and Barneys? They have been telling people about Katie’s $100,000 shopping sprees.

Frankly, I think Cruise is embarrassed by his wife’s shopping!!

I am also surprised, giving her shopping habits, that is was such a low amount! KH can drop $100,000 in one day and not look back.

  20. Tia says:

You’ll find with most of the other things written about them its from unknown source. Nieman Marcus and Barneys are not on the record telling the media…that is what the tabs made up but in this case the shop is on the record giving false information about them. In the states you can’t sue for things like this and again like so many have said they’re NOT suing or taking legal action! They just sent the shop a warning letter to stop talking about them.

  21. Mia--of Course--Pocca says:

    GRETE:
IF I remember correctly, she was in a burberry dress, far from a casual dress to play in the park with…s

  22. Anon2 says:

If they had their lawyer send a cease and decist letter, then they have already taken legal action. Hello.

  23. Anon says:

That what will happen…Katie will shop somewhere else. Maybe they will shut up so they can keep their biggest client.

  24. Anon says:

MEant to say THEN WHAT WILL HAPPEN…

  25. lala says:

I think TOM is so proud that could makes KATIE happy as she’s to TOM. SHOPPING IS NOT A BIG DEAL-she can shop whenever and whatever she wants!! Love TOMKAT…..
