The ‘All My Sons’ Ticket Circus

There are some extremely differing opinions when it comes to the ticket sales for “All My Sons”. While the New York Post is stating that ticket sales are pathetic (albeit four days before tickets even went on sale), other places are indicating that sales for the Broadway production are indeed going just fine.
The tickets officially went on sale July 5th. According to TeleCharge.com, there is an overwhelming demand for the tickets. Now this I believe as opposed to what I posted earlier. Here’s what their site says:
Important Notice
Please Note: Due to overwhelming demand for tickets to All My Sons, there is a delay in processing all types of orders being mailed. There are stringent ticket limits which have added to the normal processing time. We expect tickets being sent by regular mail should be received 4 weeks after an order has been placed. Thank you for your understanding.
Speaking of that other post I wrote, here is an excerpt that I now know isn’t accurate (that’s my opinion anyway):
One article says that the play is already destined to be a flop because the advance bookings are so poor. They have failed to reach the $1 million dollar mark.
On Broadwayworld.com, they are reporting that the two-week pre-sale period was highly successful and it grossed more than $1 million.
As a friend of mine said, this is a superb play Katie or no Katie. I truly believe the seats for “All My Sons” will be filled and the reviews will be good. John Lithgow is in it for crying out loud! He has amazing talent when it comes to Broadway and I have always heard superb things about his performance.
Anyway, I thought I would just clear up some things and let you see both sides of the story. I personally can’t wait to hear great things about Katie Holmes Broadway debut.

I am amazed at how easily other sites can get away with lieing, its like they don’t even need proof, they just copy and paste the same malicious story. I hope it is true that her play did well. Now that I think of it, I would like to see her performance, but I dont’ live in New York, I hope she makes her self look her best in the play. Hopefully, somebody sneaks in with a camera and records her performance and loads it on Youtube so us less fortunate ones can see!
So, what are the figures for ticket sales? Inquiring minds want to know.
I don’t think anyone can say how this play will do until it is over and the reviews are in.
I said this in my earlier post. Obviously the writer of the NY post article did it because they believed it would be repeated without any further investigation. This is irresponsible journalism, the broadway sites are open to every one, the least a journalist can do is find out the truth before regurgitating lies.
Obviously the so called expert reviewer has an axe to grind against scientology, unless they were selling the tickets on the black market outside the scientology centre, I don’t see how they reached this ridiculous conclusion without the tickets being on sale to the general public. The sales are also restricted that no one person can buy 1000 tickets. With so much demand, there is a fear that tickets would be bought and horded by certain individuals.
So many lies, yet not questioned by the sites repeating them!
You cann’t believe this but now there is a sotry making rounds that the tickets will be discounted. Sweet Jesus! My head could bust. I guess this is their explanation if the seats turn out full come September. They have it all planned.
Lauren, is this site your full time job–you seem to get very emotional about varying opinions. There are some very heavy-weight actors in this play. Katie has a good but relatively small part. It is important to keep that in mind-she is not carrying the play herself. I have no idea what story is true about ticket sales, nor about how Broadway works, but I think it is up to the critics. If they give it a good review, the play is a hit-and more people will come.
Con mom, I am here almost as much as you are, No?
I work on a computer for 12 hours straight and I do enjoy coming here. How bored would I be if my job involved making a post every three or so hours.
I am not emotional (try reading my posts in a calm tone and you will see :)), I am just pissed like any fan would be.
The truth is there for every one to see, it is on the official sites. Both the broadway site and the ticket sales site. The tickets are doing extremely well from both those sources and my guess is that before the critics opinions are in, the seats will be full, and not because of ’secret discounts’ LOL.
I do though agree that the play is not about Katie. It is a popular play from way back. Its success or lack of does not in anyway hinge on Katie. Of course there is no denying the extra buzz because of her presence but that is just about it.
BTW I am surprised that as a fan, you don’t find it unfair that such stories are fabricated as a way of hurting Katie’s career.
Note: Imagine me smiling, maybe I will sound less harsh……
LOL Lauren… hard to imagine you smiling- some of your statements are so intense-I think calling others opinions ‘lies upon lies’ is pretty harsh, don’t you?? Unless we are actually living in their household, NONE of us know the ‘truth’ about anything to do with TomKat. I suspect that it lies somewhere in the MIDDLE of all the stuff flying around the net and media circus. I don’t believe all the negative stuff nor do I believe all the ‘totally perfect’ stuff either. You and others are completely as entitled to total love and fluff of Tom and everything about him as others are to their disbelief in all the spin coming from their camp. One isn’t evil just because they have a negative opinion and even get into speculation and discussion about some of the ‘events” or the lifestyle surrounding these folks. They live a very public large lifestyle and some of the bruhaha has come from their own actions.
BTW, ticket sales are over the $million dollar mark, now aren’t they? I still hold to the opinion that it is all about the critics.. Look at Julia Roberts as a case in point. Tickets quickly sold out for her play, but the critics panned it and the rest is history.
Con mom, when I said lies upon lies, I did not mean opinions of posters here but this article.
We now know that this article is a lie, like Julie said, it was written 4 days before the tickets went on sale, the sales passed the one million dollar mark and the sales site has even put up a notice about the volume of sales.
The article also quoted someone who is selling 1000 tickets, there are stringent restrictions on the tickets and you can only buy 25 in a week, where did he get from 1000 tickets, before they even went on sale to the public and why say they are not selling when they are not yet for sale? Those the are lies.
So many untruths are told about this couple. Positive or negative. I actually only believe what comes out of their mouths, even pictures can be misinterpreted.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for the reviews. Hopefully they will be positive since the cast is top notch. I hope they are not written before the play opens like Friedman and Valkyrie.:D
So, what is the volume? The posts keep going around in circles with this is a lie and that is a lie, but what are the facts?
Tyler,
The links give you the only facts we have at the moment. They have so far sold over $1 million. The Tickets went on sale three days ago and the site selling them is warning that the demand is overwhelming and customers should be patient.
The pre-sale tickets were on sale to American Express card holders only and were limited to certain sections of the theatre…….AA to S in orchestra and the first six rows of the Mezzanine.
The pre-sale period is now over.
Tickets to the general public and those with every other credit card went on sale July 5th.
I should add that tickets don’t go on sale at the theatre box office until the first or second week of August.
Why don’t we all wait for the play review and final sales before arguing ticket sales? (Although from what I heard, KH was given such minor part, that she would have to be really bad to mess it up.)
You guys put too much emotion into the press and what the say. The same press which attempts to call close Presidential elections before polls have closed in the majority of the country.
Yes I also didn’t understand how that article was talking about the ticket sales before the acual public availability. I think certain vendors like Amex cardholders, etc got early blocks of tickets which was perhaps what they were talking about. Since I know nothing about Broadway-although I do love plays and such, I don’t know if a $million is a good figure. I had read somewhere that the play NK was in -something about the Blue Room??LOL like I said–don’t pay much mind to Broadway took in about $4 million in early sales. Don’t know how they figure that all out.
I seem to remember the play’s producer creating the hype surrounding Katie. In an interview, he lauded her acting ability without even mentioning the other more experienced cast members. Clearly, he wanted to bank on the Cruise name.
If there was any hype created with the addition of Katie to the All My Sons cast, it was by the media.
Lithgow, Wiest and Wilson were already attached to the project.
When the producer was asked about how Katie came to be chosen, he spoke about how he and the director, Simon McBurney chose Katie.
Later when Katie was in NYC workshopping the play the Post’s Cindy Adams asked him about Katie in the role of Ann Deever.
Didn’t TC buy or finance the play for Katie? So it
is understandable this would pull more attention
to her, be it a small and fail-proof part. Hey, don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
I can’t wait to hear about the final ticket sales and then of course, the reviews after the September 18th preview. Sept. feels like a long ways away, lol.
I asked my husband last night if he wanted to make a quick trip to New York to see a Broadway play. He wasn’t amused.
AMEX authorized sellers can/did buy bulk for the Amex card holders to purchase in advance.
It would be completely possible for a Amex dealer to have purchased 1,000 tickets and still have all of them only because no one came to him to purchase their tickets. Maybe because he did not advertise or there was another event that he was making more money from. Who knows. But it IS possible!
Not to worry though, It was John Lithgows fault, NOT kh!
Can we even stop posting garbage from the New York Post?
All I can say is Im so jealous for those people that can watch this play because Im not able to.
But even if the Amex dealer bought tickets in advance, he cannot sell them before the two week advance period is over. He also cannot sell them till they are open to the public. How then can he complain that they are not selling unless he is selling them undercover?
From all angles the NY Post article does not make sense. Leading me to believe that it was intended to be Malicious.
Can any one explain why we are comparing the sales to Nicole’s ticket sales?
Mind you her pre-sales were also over $1m according to the broadway site and not $4million. But this article is one big lie, so I did not expect them to get that right either.
@ Julie
That last bit about your husband is hilarious. LOL
I want to go and watch the play too. I am trying to be in NY in December.
That whole article from NY Post was one lie after another!
Con.mom, this is just my opinion!
“Although from what I heard, KH was given such minor part, that she would have to be really bad to mess it up.”
Here is a quote from someone who knows the play.
“All My Sons is one of the best plays Arthur Miller ever wrote… and Ann Deever is a pretty big part in the show. If she was Lydia she’d only be on stage for a grand total of 1 scene, but Ann is deeply involved at the heart of the play… it’s extremely complex and emotional and filled with mountains of symbolism…”
Lauren, they will tear katie apart, its already slowly happening, and it will build up, and then they will really let her have it, you can see it coming. , and i also think that katie’s pretty much expecting whats in store for her anyway, i just hopethese so called theatre critics have a little bit of decency and give her a fair go. katie will have tom and suri with her and she’ll have the support from all the people who love her, they will be her strength, and she will shine
I think Katie should stay home and devote herself to Suri who doesn’t look so happy these days.
What does she need this play for, the pain doesn’t seem worth the gain. I fear it’s like the
lamb going to slaughter.
suri is 2 years old and looks very happy to me considering there are 30 paps snapping away at her….katie is excellent in drama roles and she is far from a lamb going to slaughter, do youthink producers just take anyone on just like that, they want to make money. what i don’t like are the lies that are going around , i’m more than sure her performance will be excellent but so far ,the play has’nt even started and nastiness has already started……and please next time put an initial or something after mary so i can give your post a miss.
Anon…………There is another Mary who post here and the above comment is from that one, not this one.
Maybe I should have used my surname……….This Mary is very confident that Katie will be wonderful in her role as Ann Deever.
Annie, the unnecessary nastiness is why I don’t trust the media and some bloggers. Responsible and credible journalism has become a thing of the past.
A couple of days ago, I read an interesting article about how the Press has become out of control.
If anyone is interested check the link for the article. (I tried to post this many times but it doesn’t appear…one last try)
Advance tickets means what the name states. They sell before the opening to the public. Used to work for Amex so that is a vendor that I KNOW how they work. Not the only one. Plenty of vendors or buying groups will get a block of tickets to sell in ADVANCE of the public availability date. Since I don’t believe Katie is expected to ‘carry’ this play’, I still think there is plenty of time to see this thing unfold and that the opening night and critics will be what determines the fate of this event..
Oh and Annie, I am wondering how you believe that Suri looks happy these days. In all the pics of the July 4th outing, I think Katie tried to interact with her a couple of times and I wasn’t sure if TC was kissing her or getting onto her in a couple of the pics. Connor also has no smiles. Suri has the countenance of a very sad little person and her hair is totally out of control and uncared for. If they were there for a parade, then I would have thought there would be just a couple of pictures of her smiling or enjoying the festivities. TC has enough guards always by him to have created an opening thru which they could enjoy the parade. But then again, maybe we didn’t get to see those moments because I haven’t seen any of the pics of her enjoying her ice cream, etc. so maybe we only got to see them trying to get thru the crowds.
I would think they would want to show their happiness and radiant faces to everyone, so I agree c. mom, why no smiles especially from Suri, kids love ice cream and parades. She hasn’t looked happy for a long time, but maybe
she is. If TC is photographed smiling then why
isn’t Suri? especially if he’s happily holding his
happy daughter at a happy event.
The family was heading back to their vehicle. The videos show that.

Well, here is another quote from someone else “who knows the play”:
I see her as a liability not a draw, but Lithgow and Weist will probably be enough to make up for it.
And, really, any ticket broker who thinks she’ll be a bigger draw than Daniel Radcliffe deserves to be left holding lots of tickets.
They all look happy to me. Candid pics tells everything and your future? My Bible tells me only God sees everything and can tell your future and certainly not the paparazzis and gossipers. Bravo to Katie for living her life and doing what she does best and pursuing what she loves not caring what miserable lowlives say. Especially unethical journalists of today.
PuckHappy: Your response to Tia doesn’t make any sense.
Tia’s quote is from someone who has seen or read the play and its about how big Ann Deever’s part is in the play and not if KH will be a big draw or not. Her response was to Anon’s comment, who said from what she heard, “KH was given such minor part, that she would have to be really bad to mess it up”.
Why didn’t you copy and paste her entire comment including what she was replying too?
Hana, I was about to say the same thing. Ann’s Deever’s role is quite substancial. It is not a lead but it definitely is substancial.
Annie, I agree with you. I can sense that the people who don’t like Tom and Katie want to exclude her from the success of the play by dismissing her role yet blame her if anything goes wrong. Like someone pointed out they can’t wait to call her the ‘weakest link’ without even watching the play.
I am glad she has her family. Tom is her strength. Her parents too are very supportive of her. She will pull this off but her criticis will look for something to criticise.
just out of curiousity, does any one know how Jen Garners broadway show went, the ticket sales and such, i’d really like to know.
This play is one thing. The Dark Night movie that she turned down was a huge mistake! She turned it down to do “Mad Money” thats another bad move! Hope she gets this right but its not looking that way…It would have helped her career a lot to do the Dark Night; completely foolish move Katie; although, I’m sure your kicking yourself anyway.
Concerned Mom, i think suri is very aware of the paps, i don’t know if you have seen the video of her and katie , in tiergarten park, suri is pointing to the trees the clouds , whatever, she played peek a boo ,with her beloved blanket, had her mother chasing her around, she was so sweet and playful,as soon as she became aware of the paps, thats it , from then on she just stood and stared at them
I normally don’t like comparing little kids ,but this time i am. for example Kate Hudsons little boy ,he was in a pram with a dummy in his mouthuntil he was 3yrs or older and seriously this little guy looked under nourished, and never have i seen him smile, but i’m sure he does, as i’m sure he was well fed, suri seems to get analysed a lot.
I agree with you Leah! She should never have turned down The Dark Night. That movie is going to be better than anything she attempts to do at this point. None of her decisions seem to make sense.
Didn’t she also turn down an invitation to be considered for an oscar from one of her movies??
I too wish she had done the Dark Knight movie. That was the next step for her career to progress and it is getting so much buzz and excitement. Might have been one of those career-making movies like Top Gun was for Tom..Sorry but Risky Business was not one of his finer moments
Annie, where are those pictures of Suri?? I have not seen anything in months of Suri smiling. I am not saying there is an issue–I simply haven’t seen any pictures of her either interacting with either parent or just smiling and looking happy. The papps are an unfortunate part of her life and won’t go away…
I wish she has done TDN too, but not because it’d be a “career-making movie” for her, C.mom, from what I read Rachel Dawes will not be in the movie that long for it to be anything for Katie. And lets not forget she didn’t get good reviews for BB, so why do it?
I think she should do more indie movies.
About Suri, I wish you would stop and think for a second, C.mom. And stop judging her from few photos. We don’t see Suri as much as we did when they were in Germany or when they go to NY. The photos we see now are taken when they go to their car or leave their car, not enough time passes by to get animated or smiling photos of Suri. Why does this matter to you, anyway? Why does she has to always smile? What does it proves? The way you keep bringing up this subject is kind of annoying and its as if you’re really want or are wishing ill on this child. Wish her well and move on!
Concerned mom, the video was taken when they were in germany,it was around a year ago, suri was out and about a lot in germany, most of the time walking around, the papps don’t seem to be so aggresive in europe, i think they are there , but keep their distance, there ’s also a video, not very clear, because it looks like it was taken from a distance of katie, in a park, doing excerises, hands up touching toes and you see this little thing with her hands up in the air , she’s so cute , you must have seen on the set of Valkyrie, feeding her father, eating a muffin , she was interacting with her parents so much, photos oh tom and her in a chocolate shop. i also think that if tom and katie wanted to play up to the cameras they could easily get her to smile. remember ,in New York , when she smiled waved, and said Hi to the papps, everybody was saying suri was being trained to peform in public like a monkey. i’m not sticking up for them , but sometimes it’s obvious that whatever they do, they just can’t win.
i think it was a compliment to katie that chris nolan wrote the part in batman especially for her and wanted her back for the sequel, even thou gh the critics wer’nt too nice to her . i think even though she did’nt make very succesful movies she seemed to be always in the minds of a lot of producers, personally i think she has’nt found the right part yet to show her potential, as for doing the batman sequel i’m not sure , but i think it coincided with Valkyrie, so the cruise family would have been seperated for months, so maybe a bit of a sacrifice was called for, who knows.
when you look back at katies movies , they may not have been very successful but she has certainly worked with some big names, at the same time she did’nt ride on the back of some elses star either.
