It’s official! As we speculated yesterday, Guy Pearce is set to join Katie Holmes in Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark. You might remember this handsome Aussie actor from the critically acclaimed Christopher Nolan film, Memento (2000), where he played amnesia stricken Leonard Shelby.

Pearce will be portraying the father of Bailee Madison, who is also confirmed as the little girl who is haunted by all the scary things living in the house, and boyfriend to Katie Holmes. It doesn’t sound like there will be much time for love scenes with all their time spent fighting demons out to get his daughter!

In other news, the first photos of Tom, Katie and Suri arriving at Melbourne’s Essendon Airport have surfaced in The Sydney Morning Herald and News.com.au. How adorable is sleepy Suri resting on Tom’s shoulder!

Filming is set to begin for Katie Holmes’s new movie “Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark” which will be shot in Melbourne, Australia. As was already reported, we know that the set will be closed and security extra tight. Even if our curiosity might be wondering what the stars are up to, I think we can all agree having a little privacy from the paparazzi should help the actors focus without unnecessary distractions.

So far, information about the film is limited, but what we do know is that this is going to be a scary one! The story is about a young girl who goes to live with her father and his girlfriend, only to discover there are evil creatures living there too.

Katie is no stranger to scary movies with Disturbing Behavior (1998) and Teaching Mrs. Tingle (1999) two of her early starring roles. The only other cast member they’ve listed on IMDB (and even she is only ‘rumored’!) is the adorable nine year old Bailee Madison who you might remember from Bridge to Terabithia where she played Mary Beth Aarons.

Even though we won’t have access to the set, I wonder what attractions Katie and Tom will take Suri to while they are in Melbourne. It’s supposed to be a beautiful city!

There are rumors circulating about the “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” set in Melbourne, Australia. Tom, Katie and Suri are all due in Melbourne later this month and sources are saying that great lengths are being taken to lock down the film set, in order to give Katie some privacy from the over-bearing media.

Miramax, the film distributor, confirmed that security will be at a premium and that the film is set for an 8-week shoot.

What exactly has been done? Supposedly, the production company has booked out all of the sound stages at the studio complex to prevent any leaks from the set.

Miramax Film’s Senior VP of international publicity Lawrence Angrisani said, “Please keep in mind as of now it’s going to be a closed set”.

I see nothing wrong with a closed set and don’t really see what the big deal is. This is Katie’s job. She should be able to have as much protection and privacy she needs in order to do her job well. And we all know how crazy the media is and what they’ll do just to get a picture of Katie Holmes. It’s insane. Sure, I would like to see pictures from the set, but if none surface, I’m fine with that.

Kate, a TomKatCrazy reader, mentioned that she had read that Katie Holmes signed on to star in “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”. I looked into it and sure enough, it’s everywhere! I’ve been away from my computer for most of the day (5 year old had to have a tooth pulled…not fun) and I miss BIG news like this!

Anyway, here’s what I’ve been able to find out about the movie. According to Variety, Katie has agreed to star in the thriller “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”. The film is set to shoot this summer in Melbourne.

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark" is based on a 1973 ABC telepic about a young girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend and discovers they are sharing the house with devilish creatures.

IMDB describes the plot as “A young girl sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend discovers creatures in her new home who want to claim her as one of their own.”

Okay, so I mentioned before I don’t like horror movies, but I think this is one I will have to suck it up, be brave and go see. I can’t miss Katie!

Radaronline.com is reporting that Katie Holmes’s brother-in-law, Joseph Jeffrey Fretti, has died suddenly. He was only 48 years old and was found dead by a family friend at the home of his mother’s house in Sarasota, Fl.

Fretti is Katie’s sister oldest sister Tamera’s husband, who is 41.

Jeff Fretti was the owner of a funeral home in Toledo, Ohio. He had taken his two young children to visit his 76-year-old mother.

Sarasota Medical Examiner Russell Vega told RadarOnline.com that a cause of death has yet to be determined but doesn’t suspect foul play or suicide.

Tamera, who was not along for the trip to Sarasota, flew to Florida to bring her two children back home to Toledo.

How sad. My thoughts go out to Katie’s family.

On Thursday (April 2) morning, Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise were seen exiting a dance studio in Malibu, California. Suri has on a pair of little ballet slippers!

Katie was all smiles as they left the studio and she’s looking cute and casual in her striped long sleeve shirt and jeans. Her hair is also looking a lot longer. I love it!

Supposedly Katie recently talked to OK! Magazine about being nerdy and normal. Hmmmmm, I’m not sure if celebrities actually talk to OK! and these quotes sound kind of iffy, but here goes nothing!

Katie reportedly tells the mag that she is who she is.

“I can’t deny that I’m a nerd. I am who I am. I’m pretty normal, I’m not a smooth type of girl, I run into things, I trip, I spill food, I say stupid things - I really don’t have it all together. But I’m working on it - I really am.”

She went on to talk about how she was a late bloomer in school when it came to boys.

“In hindsight, I think going to an all-girls school meant we missed out socially.

“We came out of school and it was suddenly, ‘Oh my God! Boys!’ I was all about, ‘How do I look? What is he thinking?’

“We weren’t used to being around boys in a normal setting and seeing them as friends.”

According to OK! Magazine, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are expecting baby number 2.

A family friend told the magazine, "They are deliriously happy that Suri will be a big sister”. Another source adds "They’ve always planned on expanding their family. They’re over the moon."

Supposedly, Tom and Katie are still trying to keep the news a secret and are only telling close friends and family. They want to wait until she is 3 months along to tell the public.

According to OK! magazine, Entertainment Wise and a few other “sources”, Katie Holmes and Angelina Jolie are trying to coordinate playdates with their daughters Shiloh, Zahara and Suri.

"Katie loves entertaining and spoke to Angelina about having an at-home tea party with cupcakes for the girls," a friend of Katie’s tells OK!. "It’s something she has wanted to do for ages," adds another source close to the actress. "Because of security reasons, Katie can’t have just any child over to her home. But with celebrity tots like Shiloh and Zahara, there’s no problem."

Their plans supposedly started at a Golden Globes after party. Tom and Brad Pitt have known each other for a very long time. They starred in “Interview With a Vampire” together.

The playdate would be a tea party, with Katie’s favorite dessert – cupcakes of course! In Katie’s Galmour magazine interview, she mentioned that she doesn’t cook much, but that she does like to make cupcakes.

She said, “I don’t really cook that much—eventually I will. I do make cupcakes.”

How cute! My kids are too old for playdates and I definitely miss those days. I once threw a tea party for my daughter and her friends when they were 5. They all came dressed in their finest dress. It was so much fun!

I can see this as something that Suri would really get into.

Everyone has been talking about the fact that Katie Holmes looks noticeably thinner these days. Of course, you have to balance that with the fact that everyone thinks she’s pregnant too. Geez, this girl can’t win with the press!

It is obvious if you compare pictures of Katie from a year ago, to now, that she has lost weight. But the question is why? Is she sick? Is she stressed?

Well, Katie has set the record straight about her thinner frame. She says it’s because of her stint on Broadway when she starred in “All My Sons”.

“My metabolism was in full gear the whole time,” she tells Hello! “I lose weight fast when I’m working so hard. It doesn’t matter how much I eat, I just get thin.”

Katie doesn’t really mind too much though. She says, “It’s not the worst problem in the word to have, though, now is it?”

She is so right. Katie seems to be happy in her own skin, no matter what size she is and she has to be. If Katie were to put on 10 pounds right now, the media would say “Breaking News! Katie is fat. She’s using food as comfort because of her horrible marriage to Tom Cruise!” Like I said, she can’t win.
