Confirmed: Guy Pearce To Co-Star With Katie Holmes
June 30, 2009 by Rachel Segal
It’s official! As we speculated yesterday, Guy Pearce is set to join Katie Holmes in Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark. You might remember this handsome Aussie actor from the critically acclaimed Christopher Nolan film, Memento (2000), where he played amnesia stricken Leonard Shelby.
Pearce will be portraying the father of Bailee Madison, who is also confirmed as the little girl who is haunted by all the scary things living in the house, and boyfriend to Katie Holmes. It doesn’t sound like there will be much time for love scenes with all their time spent fighting demons out to get his daughter!
In other news, the first photos of Tom, Katie and Suri arriving at Melbourne’s Essendon Airport have surfaced in The Sydney Morning Herald and News.com.au. How adorable is sleepy Suri resting on Tom’s shoulder!

Katie And Tom In Melbourne For “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark”
June 29, 2009 by Rachel Segal
Filming is set to begin for Katie Holmes’s new movie “Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark” which will be shot in Melbourne, Australia. As was already reported, we know that the set will be closed and security extra tight. Even if our curiosity might be wondering what the stars are up to, I think we can all agree having a little privacy from the paparazzi should help the actors focus without unnecessary distractions.
So far, information about the film is limited, but what we do know is that this is going to be a scary one! The story is about a young girl who goes to live with her father and his girlfriend, only to discover there are evil creatures living there too.
Katie is no stranger to scary movies with Disturbing Behavior (1998) and Teaching Mrs. Tingle (1999) two of her early starring roles. The only other cast member they’ve listed on IMDB (and even she is only ‘rumored’!) is the adorable nine year old Bailee Madison who you might remember from Bridge to Terabithia where she played Mary Beth Aarons.
Even though we won’t have access to the set, I wonder what attractions Katie and Tom will take Suri to while they are in Melbourne. It’s supposed to be a beautiful city!
“Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” is slated to be released in 2011.

“Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” Closed Set
June 16, 2009 by Julie Bonner
There are rumors circulating about the “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” set in Melbourne, Australia. Tom, Katie and Suri are all due in Melbourne later this month and sources are saying that great lengths are being taken to lock down the film set, in order to give Katie some privacy from the over-bearing media.
Miramax, the film distributor, confirmed that security will be at a premium and that the film is set for an 8-week shoot.
What exactly has been done? Supposedly, the production company has booked out all of the sound stages at the studio complex to prevent any leaks from the set.
Miramax Film’s Senior VP of international publicity Lawrence Angrisani said, “Please keep in mind as of now it’s going to be a closed set”.
I see nothing wrong with a closed set and don’t really see what the big deal is. This is Katie’s job. She should be able to have as much protection and privacy she needs in order to do her job well. And we all know how crazy the media is and what they’ll do just to get a picture of Katie Holmes. It’s insane. Sure, I would like to see pictures from the set, but if none surface, I’m fine with that.

Tom, Katie and Suri Relocating to Melbourne for Three Months
May 21, 2009 by Julie Bonner
According to USA Today, Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise and Suri Cruise will all be relocating together to Melbourne, Australia this summer. Katie has landed her first lead role since getting married.
Who is Katie playing in “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”? We finally know now! She will play half of a designing couple who are restoring their old New England house.
"I’m really looking forward to it," says Katie.
It sounds like a great character for Katie to play.
"It’s really her journey becoming a mother," unexpectedly, to her boyfriend’s daughter. "In the midst of that, there’s unexpected scares."
So there you have it! Katie is playing the mom, like some of you guessed. I am really looking forward to this film. Three months in Melbourne with the whole family…wow!

Who Do You Want to See in “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”?
May 15, 2009 by Julie Bonner
Some of you have already started discussing who you would like to see star in “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” with Katie Holmes. I thought it would be fun to have an official post where we talk about our ideal cast for the movie.
Here’s how E! News describes the flick:
The adrenaline-pumping flick is based on a TV movie that aired on ABC back in 1973, which centered on a girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend, only to realize that they are not the only occupants of the abode.
Okay, so who should play the father and the girlfriend? There is no word whether or not Katie will have a love interest in the film, but if she did, who would you want it to be?
In the description from the 1973 TV Movie, it describes the other “occupants” as demon-like creatures. Sounds interesting!

Katie Holmes in “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”
May 7, 2009 by Julie Bonner
Kate, a TomKatCrazy reader, mentioned that she had read that Katie Holmes signed on to star in “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”. I looked into it and sure enough, it’s everywhere! I’ve been away from my computer for most of the day (5 year old had to have a tooth pulled…not fun) and I miss BIG news like this!
Anyway, here’s what I’ve been able to find out about the movie. According to Variety, Katie has agreed to star in the thriller “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”. The film is set to shoot this summer in Melbourne.
Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark" is based on a 1973 ABC telepic about a young girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend and discovers they are sharing the house with devilish creatures.
IMDB describes the plot as “A young girl sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend discovers creatures in her new home who want to claim her as one of their own.”
Okay, so I mentioned before I don’t like horror movies, but I think this is one I will have to suck it up, be brave and go see. I can’t miss Katie!

Katie and Her Lion on Set
March 9, 2009 by Julie Bonner
On Saturday night (March 7) Katie Holmes was seen on the set of “The Extra Man” working some long hours. I do believe she is one of the hardest working women in the business right now!
Katie was seen toting around a very large (and gorgeous…I want one!) stuffed lion while working on a few scenes. I have no idea if the lion is part of the scene or not.
I think Katie looks fantastic and healthy in these pictures. She seems to be glowing and you can tell she loves working. Just to refresh your memory, “The Extra Man” is about “A man who escorts wealthy widows in New York’s Upper East Side who takes a young aspiring playwright under his wing.”
More photos of Katie on set under.
Paparazzi Go Crazy for a Shot of Katie
February 27, 2009 by Julie Bonner
When it comes to a shot of Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise or their adorable daughter Suri Cruise, the paparazzi go crazy and will do whatever it takes to get the picture.
They also love shooting videos and I did some searching around to see if I could find any recent ones of Katie. Well, now that she is back in New York to film “The Extra Man”, the paps have plenty to keep them busy. If Katie’s walking somewhere, they are there. If Katie is on the set of her film, yep, they are there.
Here are two video clips I found of Katie on the set of her movie and also walking to an office building with co-star Paul Dano. I wonder what he thinks about all of this madness! See the videos below.
Katie Holmes Walks to “Extra Man” Set
February 23, 2009 by Julie Bonner
Katie Holmes was up and at them early this morning (February 23) to start filming scenes for her upcoming movie “The Extra Man”. Katie carried 2 bags with her onto the set. One that said “I Love my Earth” and the other was a blue jean bag. Much different than the bags we are used to seeing her carry around!
Katie headed back to New York after taking a little bit of time off to travel with the family. Now it’s time to get back to work. The film is about “a man who escorts wealthy widows in New York’s Upper East Side takes a young aspiring playwright under his wing.”
Katie sure looks cute in her striped pants, black coat and scarf. It looks like it’s cold in NY today! Get ready for a ton of Katie Holmes candids from New York. More below.
