Suri Holds Her Balloon While Katie Greets Her Fans
January 3, 2009 by Julie Bonner
Suri Cruise held on to a big white balloon while Katie Holmes signed autographs for fans Friday night (January 2). The whole family left the theater after an evening performance of “All My Sons” and headed back to their New York apartment.
Katie was wearing her 7 for All Mankind bell bottoms and Suri was dressed in a very cute polka dot dress. You’ll notice in some of the pictures that Suri is missing a shoe. Connor Cruise was also seen leaving the theater.
More pictures below.

Katie looks like she’d rather be anywhere else. Her eyes look devoid of emotion. As an actress, you’d think she could at least fake it for her fans
Katie looks tired but clearly happy to sign autographs for her fans. Give her a break. Suri looks so cute with her big balloon and one shoe. Nice to see Connor there to give Katie support. He must have watched the play so many times.
She needs a long break from TC, the play, the media, his family, and all the constant outings she goes on. Enough already. The woman needs some serious R and R. Bet TC will not permit it! When the show closes he will have her traveling with him etc. That man, I think, has ADHD and Katie doesnt have the personality to keep up with him yet she desperately tries to keep him happy with her. If he truly loved her he would allow her to relax at their Telluride compound away from the spotlight.
From what I hear, Katie is on stage for the entire show. Why bring a two year old to sit backstage, in a dressing room for over two hours, for an evening performance? It
Oh please, why do parent’s send their 2 year olds to daycare for an entire day while they work??? HOw is this any different Karen? Yes, Please give Katie a break…
I agree with Leah, how lucky to be able to take Suri with her to the theare, why leave her back at the apartment with the nanny, maybe Suri wants to go with her mother, I can imagine the room that Suri stays in is like a toy shop anyway and very comfortable for her, and anyone who has a child will know what a good feeling it is to have your child just a few feet away from you when you’re working or performing , as the case may be, I think its great
Katie may be on the stage for the entire show but Connor is there too and a nanny. Also I am sure Suri feels better that her mother is within distance. Children value such things.
Surprise, I agree. It’s a perk to be able to take her child to work, particularly since she only works a few hours per day.
I also believe, however, that a child needs a routine, like getting to bed at a decent hour every night, eating meals regularly, playing with other tots, etc. She shouldn’t be living an adult’s life.
cute outfit on suri… I support her taking suri 100%. I am sure she can sleep during the play, but what is better than having your little one that close ……just in case….she is little and anytime with mommy is good to me!
it is for a short time frame, and the play is over 1/11.
it is certainly not going to “scar” suri being up late now and then…
And maybe it is what Katie needed to be comfortable while performing, big deal…at least she is near/with her mother unlike the kids who are raised solely by nannies!
…by the way I do agree Katie does look exhausted and I am exhausted for her…I am even excited for this play to end…what a hectic schedule!
Going to work for a few hours everyday is a hectic schedule? I call that part time work. LOL.
Katie’s ragged appearance has everyone fooled. What the hec would she do if she had to work full time, raise not one but several kids, cook, clean, shop for groceries, run car pools, pay bills, have a rounded relationship with her husband, to name a few? Now, you should feel tired, Kelly. Watching Katie traipse from limo to stage door while her servant holds her doors, bags, shoes and God knows what else, doesn’t compare.
Besides, she got herself into this mess.
Tyler, in all fairness, I don’t think Katie sits around until her performance. It’s very exhausting being in a play and to be on Broadway is a lot of pressure. I agree with you actually when it comes to paying bills. She doesn’t have to worry about money like most of us do. Oh, if I didn’t have to worry about the bills and got to wear a different outfit everyday! And have someone drive me around town. That would be nice! We all have pressures and expectations to live up too; Katie’s are just different but I don’t think it is as simple as it appears to be or an easy life. I don’t know why you call it a mess either; I think her life is pretty awesome.
Tyler, what mess did she get herself into, don’t leave it at that , tell us.
I just have to say to Tyler, and I am not meaning to cause any trouble, but we don’t know what Katie does around the house as far as cooking and cleaning, or shopping for groceries.
I’d also like to say that theater is not all fun and games like it may come across as. Acting us hard, physically, emotionally and mentally. Yet people love it.
It is exhausting. You do nothing but run around, before the show is actually often more stressful then the show as you have many things to do and prepare (for myself, at least)
You also have to be there at the given call time, meaning her work is actually quite a bit longer than the run time of the show.
Once the show starts to do nothing but anticipate and run around, and stage lights are energy drainers. They are hot, and blinding and suck the energy right out of you.
Basically I am saying I applaud Katie for doing this, because I don’t know if i could do it while raising a kid, let alone without one.
Boo hoo Tyler, shame on you. Every one knows broadway is gruelling. Yes you don’t like her but give credit where it is due. Besides, you don’t her personally so you cannot judge her based on a few photos and gossip magazines. She could be pregnant or even have an ailment or down with flu.
Leah, ITA, her life is awesome, she has a beautiful baby and is married to a fantasic man. What more can she ask for. Her life is full. Much better than sitting on her computer hating on total strangers.
LOL Lauren!!
I’m quite sure suri is taken care of very well at the theater with many toys to play with and many other things to entertain her too. seriously, i agree…. some kids are left in daycare for sometimes up to 12 hours while there folks are at work. i hardly think 2 hours is an issue and I bet the time away from katie is good socialization for suri as well. i think we should just rest this issue because clearly katie and tom love the @#$* out of that kid!
Boo hoo Tyler, shame on you.

Lauren, that’s not very nice at all. Because tyler holds a different opinion than you, doesn’t mean you should ridicule him! You stated that he doesn’t know Katie. Neither do you. We would all do well to remember that.
I understand that Katie might consider broadway “grueling”, but my opinion is that her life is easier than the actual working Mother who has more than one child and does not have the maids, nannies, bodyguards, laundress’s, etc….that Katie has. Some women work 12 hours a day!! Saying broadway is “grueling” compared to that seems a bit silly. Katie has the financial resources to make her own life easy. Most people don’t.
As for pressure….you have a point there. I’m sure Katie is feeling pressure, but again….it’s a different type of pressure than a normal working Mom would feel who is just trying to make the bills, feed her kids and be a good parent.
I’ll retract my statements about her appearance because she may have physical ailments that she can’t control, but the bit about a grueling Broadway run is bull.
I realize she’s out of her element on Broadway, but she’s been at it 6 months now so she should be looking better, not worse.
Annie, I’m going to spit it out. The mess is hooking up with a man who’s on his third marriage, with two teenage kids and a ton of baggage. Her life consists of being flanked by bodyguards everytime she steps out of her apartment. I realize Tom has convinced her that’s normal for a “mega-celebrity” like herself, but if she has half a brain, she knows better. I think we all know that he’s “convinced” her of a lot of things. I do believe she’ll wake up one day.
I have to agree with tyler. Katie should be used to the Broadway routine by now, not looking worse. And yes, while acting on Broadway can be considered grueling, it’s certainly no more difficult than those of us who put in 9+ hour days at the office and then go home to care for our families, without the help of nannies, drivers, cooks, maids, etc.
While I can sympathize regarding the extreme media attention (although I do think that Katie and Tom both enjoy it), I cannot sympathize for what a “brutal” or “hectic” schedule Katie has. She has the luxury of bringing her daughter to work with her and the luxury of working a couple of months and then taking time off if she chooses. Many of us don’t have that luxury.
Tyler, firstly I don’t think Katies out of herelement on Broadway , don’t know if its true or not but I read that she has signed up to do the musical version of Finding Neverland later in the year, the only thing that doesnt make sense to me is ,that she is already doing workshop for it (how does she find the time for that) As much as I like Tom, you’re right about the marriages ,kids , baggage, and Katie should be looking better not worse, she’s so thin, thats the one thing that has stayed with me after watching Eli Stone. You can’t help but notice that TC looks great and Katie looks a mess. Mags are running pics of how she looked before and how she looks now, there is a huge difference you can’t help but think that maybe she has an eating disorder, either that , or there are big problems in her life. I know Tom has been heavily promoting VALKYRIE but he hasn’t been to NY that much in the 5 months, sometimes you don’t see him for weeks, and nobody knows what they do in LA unless they are somewhere public anyway. So Tyler there you go , guess I’m beginning to agree with you a bit.
If she has another Broadway gig lined up this year, that speaks volumes about her commitment to her marriage. A lot of people suspect the two have more of an arrangment than anything else. This would lend credence to that theory.
Sorry , don’t buy the arrangement theory, never did, never will.
Okay, I’m skeptical about that one too. I think the two of them actually have similar personalities so I can see them getting along. But, don’t you think it odd that she would put her family considerations aside again to do another Broadway show?If she does, there’s little doubt that her career is more important to her than her marriage IMO.
wow I stirred it up and then missed all this!!
I was going to say LOL to tyler …he is right about a few points.
Katie does have a lot of extra perks but I have a few friends on Broadway, and it is a tough schedule, I could not do it, even with all that help. It is exhausting being happy and up and mommy and wife and Katie….I know some people dont have sympathy for her, but I just do.
Katie has been with TC now almost 4yrs, she has
done 1 movie, 1 play and Eli Stone, preggers for 9 months stayed home for one year to be with Suri, she didn’t do Batman, because of the timing., she could miss out on roles all the time, if she puts his career and family commitments first, should be a little give and take on both sides, she has her own dreams and aspirations too , would it be such a bad thing to help her achieve something as well, TC has a brilliant career, and this Broadway thing probably hasn’t been easy on them and I ‘m sure he’d be none too pleased to have to go through it all over again, but maybe this is her niche ”Broadway”, who knows, there’s talk that Katie and Patric Wilson have been nominated for awards as well ,that should fire her up a bit too , she has a lot to live up to where NK is concerned too, that can’t be easy, look how mean the media was to Katie about the ticket sales for AMS, even though eventually she proved them very wrong, but if its true about Finding Neverland, it might stretch their relationship to the limits.
Blah, Blah, Blah. Can’t understand why there is this constant bashing about the way Katie conducts her life as a mother, wife and actress. It’s all just speculation and nonsense. I don’t agree with Much that is ever written from Tyler either. Don’t give this person credit for being judgmental BASED on tabloids and viewing pictures. Besides, when you see Katie out and about those are pictures that haven’t been glossed over to look perfect like in the magazines which gives everyone a false sense of what this person really looks like anyway.
Leah, what do you base your opinions on? Do you personally know Tomkat? LOL.
Any opportunity to guess personalities, careers, motherhood, what the role of a wife is suppose to partake? Putting her career before family; it appears Tyler knows TomKat more than anyone else does…
