Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes for Armani

by Julie on March 19th, 2008

UPDATE: Even though OK! said they broke the story, Katie’s rep is now denying that this is true. Reps do this a lot and then sometimes it ends up being true anyway, but I will stay on top of the story.

It’s official and OK! got the scoop. They reported earlier that Katie was working on a clothing line with Armani with hope’s to introduce it by the year’s end. They can now confirm the deal and it will be called: Katie Holmes for Armani. This really is a first for such a high-end name. Never before has such a huge fashion name teamed up with a non-professional designer.

Sources say that “Right now this is Katie’s life…She is extremely excited about it.”

Who is Katie’s fashion inspiration?

Katie’s muse in her new endeavor is none other than her daughter, Suri, who turns 2 next month. As OK! previously reported, Katie, 29, designed the adorable polka-dot dress the toddler was photographed wearing in Paris last year. “The first clothes will all be things she could imagine Suri wearing,” confirms the source.”

Katie Holmes for Armani will come out over the next 2 years starting with a collection for toddlers. Following that will be a line for older children, handbags and a women’s collection.

What’s a Katie Holmes piece going to cost you?

The Katie Holmes for Armani collection will be comparable in price to the Armani ready-to-wear line,” the source says. “It will be sold in stores like Saks, Barneys New York and Neiman Marcus. We’re talking very upscale: less expensive than Armani Privé but more than Armani Exchange. These are going to be very high-quality clothes. We’re not talking cheesy Jessica Simpson stuff.”

Well, a little over my budget so I’ll just have to admire from afar. *sigh*

Is this the end of Katie’s acting career? Sources say no, that just because she is dedicated to fashion, does not mean the end of an acting career. Yes, this Armani line is her number one focus right now as far as her career goes. Also, Tom is her number one fan and is supporting her in this endeavor.

I can’t wait to see the clothes!

I hoped it was true too but it looks like it was denied by her rep. Suri is always so well dressed. Fingers crossed it turns out true.

As if these people didn’t have enough money…I hope it’s a false rumor.

I really doubt Katie will be doing it for money. She has enough as it is. Sh edoes not seem a greedy person. I am not sure of her designing abilities though. - I can say that now. Smile.

More power to Katie! At least all that shopping at Armani is paying off.

I guess Suri will modeling more clothes for the public. Wonder if Suri gets paid for it.

Either way, it is out of my budget. As I said before just donate to Scientology. That is where the money will go anyway and you at least get the tax deduction.

I have a 2 year old and she plays hard! She is always coming home from preschool covered in paint and markers. The same happens at home - which is why the majority of her clothes come from Target and Old Navy! Does anyone else find it silly that these CHILDREN’S clothes will cost so much?!

  • concerned mom
    Mar 19, 2008 at 2:23 pm

yep Jacks. I do. So it is basically targeting the rich and famous not those of us out here in the real world. I don’t believe I have ever seen a picture of Suri in the same outfit twice. So it won’t be for anyone in the regular market.

Unlike people like Jaclyn Smith, Martha Stewart, Katthy Lee and others who realize that their fan base would like to wear or have nice looking things too.

Jacks, I’m with you on the cost of children’s clothes. I shopped at places like Target and Walmart and other department stores for my son when he was a toddler. I couldn’t imagine dropping a couple of hundred dollars on an outfit that a child will probably wear only a few months!! I know it’s people’s perrogative to buy what they want if they had the money to buy it, but I would personally still use common sense. My father always said that sometimes making money isn’t the hard part. The really hard part is holding on to it!! Oh well, to each his own.

I have three kids 10, 8 and 4 and they are also SO hard on their clothes. They come home with rips in their jeans all the time and it drives me nuts! Even if I paid 5 bucks for them on the clearance rack it stinks. :)

  • Jessy
    Mar 19, 2008 at 2:37 pm

    @ Julie
Some times things are denied and they turn out true. Working in finance, I know that some people have more money than they know what to do with.

Katie knows how to dress Suri stylishly. She has developed a great sense of style in the last couple of years herself. Look at how her hair trend has spread like crazy.

I love NEXT they have some great stuff.

  • Jessy
    Mar 19, 2008 at 2:39 pm

Katie did shop at Target when she was fimling madmoney in Philadelphia. I guess parents would buy Armani for their clothes for occassions and stuff. Not that it will stop the kids from ruining them. Well, if you are rich, live rich!!

You mean when she has a coat on Suri. She is usually jacketless while her parents are bundled up because KH is showing off the clothes.

geez, just what the world needs, yet another clothes line associated with an actress . . . although i am pleased that it is not “KATE h for armani”. at least it’s ONE thing she is being associated with that doesn’t have tommy’s name attached to it. if i were her, i’d stick with marathon running as a hobby!

WOW. I havnt been on the site for a month or so (my baby is nearly due and when i have spare time i sleep instead of googling!!) and havnt things changed!!!! I must say that im not sure i like the changes. While it will be nice to not have bad things constantly said about the cruises, mainly suri, those comments were what kept me coming back again and again. I have been in a few heated debates with tomkat “haters” and i thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. I must admit that it was refreshing to come to a sight where everything was discussed openly wether others agreed or not. There were many things on here that i didnt agree with and some things said toward suri actually made me angry but its called freedom of speech and when the debates started flying it made us see each others point of views. The sight was very very negative for a while there but i actually think that it started to tone down a bit. I dont think that its fair that we all have to now watch what we say and cant make a negative comment on scientology or tomkat. I dont hate them but i dont really like them much either. I do however love little suri cruise and am guilty for reading about tomkat in hopes of finding out if the conspiracy theories that surround them are true. While some comments need to be cleaned up this site will become very boring indeed if all the comments are nothing but WE LOVE TOMKAT!!

  • lemon227
    Mar 20, 2008 at 7:12 am

Candice, I agree with you. This still can be a good site where people respect each other while still voicing “their” own opinions. Heck, as you stated, freedom of speech is part of the American fiber. If you’re afraid to just voice your own opinion without bashing on anyone else, what’s the point. I love the great debates also. We might not have always agreed, but we voiced “our” opinions. Isn’t that what people like Bill O’ Reilly and other do on talk shows? Indeed, if we’re only allowed to say how “cute” everything is, then this site has taken a major step back.

  • concerned mom
    Mar 20, 2008 at 7:22 am

candice, ck out jj freedom of speech still exists over there. personally i don’t have a problem with TC or KH although they certainly exhibit extreme conspicuous consumption-look it up– GOLD closets? 1500 sq ft closet? 1 million on jet fuel alone in a year, etc One thing to enjoy your wealth if you are fortunate to have it, completely another to become totally self absorbed in it.MY main issue is not even all that but the CoS which is a killer cult

  • Carla
    Mar 20, 2008 at 7:31 am

It’s good to voice one’s own opinion, especially if it goes against the norm and the masses. All the same thinking causes complacency and lack of intellectual thought. Then, we have too many followers, and not enough leaders. My concern is when some of us are being censored. Censorship doesn’t allow for the provocative thoughts to be conveyed to the ones who have let their minds become jello.

  • Carla
    Mar 20, 2008 at 7:33 am

Jlo’s twins are on the cover of People. Cute, cute, cute. Where’s Suri?

  • Carla
    Mar 20, 2008 at 7:39 am

    LemoN:

I think that this site is about how cute and wonderful everything should be. Remember the Wizard of Oz? I do think that this site has degenerated back to “let’s play nice” and “everybody is a winner”. Even the last person in line is the “last winner”. THere is freedom of speech here, only how freely the speech is conveyed, is what has been detered. Time will tell.

  • Carla
    Mar 20, 2008 at 7:51 am

    Candice:

God Bless you as you are a soon-to-be-mom! I agree with everything you say here, regarding the comments, etc. I believe that I am one of those who you have helped to “see the light”. Anyway, remember the dinosaurs? They couldn’t adapt to the climatic changes so they became extinct. If this site doesn’t adapt to the people who blog in them, it will also become extinct.

    Mar 20, 2008 at 8:11 am

Candice: I agree with what you said. I was wondering if you had your baby or not. Happy pushing when you do!!!

Honestly, what makes me sick and wonder about the tone of the web post is that Julie has buddied up and had a love fest with Jessy right away, even after I told her why Jessy left. Still curious though to see how our speech will be limited. So far, it looks like it haven’t. If Julie allows Jessy and gang to spew whatever and censors us, I will not be back.

Lili: Jessy’s comments were all conviently deleted with the rest of the IN STYLE comments.

  • Anne
    Mar 20, 2008 at 8:12 am

I will not get myself into any arguments but does freedome of speech mean bashing people? The site had become a bash site and some of us did not feel like we were free to express ourselves. I have never stopped anyone from saying what they want about Tom and Katie but bashing kids and attacking everything from Katie’s hair to her toes can get quite boring.

Perhaps we do not have to listen to religious crusades any more. Have nothing against anyone’s beliefs but I think am not the only fans who does not give a fig about scientology and would rather enjoy Tom, Katie and Suri without the perils of scientology being thrust down my throat.

  • Lilianne
    Mar 20, 2008 at 8:26 am

Mama…thanks for the info. I did wonder what happened to those comments since I spent considerable time going back to look for them. I am not sure why they were deleted and I have to say it bothers me that they were. Out of sight does NOT mean out of mind.

On a side note I do have to say I agree with Anne somewhat about the first part of her posting at 8:12. When I was first started coming here and there were more “fans” posting comments most of them were not allowed to express how they felt without being ridiculed and called names by the non-fans. I can remember some of them being told to “pack up their dolls and go home” if they didnt like something. I can remember being ridiculed myself for saying something in defense of TC or KH. I stuck around though through all of that and never let it bother me and eventually people stopped doing that to me. Maybe because they finally figured out I wasnt going to go away?? I dont know. I think it would be great if this site became something it has not been so far….a place where ALL people could express their thoughts and feelings about TomKat without being attacked for their opinions.

    Mar 20, 2008 at 8:41 am

There was someone, can’t remember who though, who kept saying “Suri is ugly, Suri is disgusting” etc.

All the commenters who you refer to as the ‘bashers’ (i.e. the regular, intellectual, entertaining commenters like Battlemama, Libra, Ng, Toledo, Mom etc) told that commenter in no uncertain terms to treat Suri with respect as she’s only a child. Yes, that’s right folks, they came to Suri’s defence.

Not everyone comes here to be negative about the Cruises, it just happens organically because of some of the ridiculous things this couple been reported to do (I, for one, don’t believe that Tom manages to save a broken down car every time he hits the road in Colorado).

In the absence of anyone looking after this blog for a while, I think all the people here have always given KH and TC credit where they DO think it’s due, and everyone has been very quick to defend TRULY terrible things being said about Suri and indeed often, her parents.

I remember when Candice came to the board, she received a bit of a hard time, but she took it in her stride. Other blogs treat newbies the same way, it’s the nature of the internet! One of the reasons we’re hiding behind nicknames and computer screens is because it gives us the ability to revel in an anonymous personality. Along with this lack of accountability comes overextended opinions and often, hitting the enter button before we’ve thought about what we’ve really said (or typed).

There’s no point squabbling over squabbling or rubbing anyone’s face in anything. All the face rubbing that’s going on today is more nauseating than the potential lack of free speech on this blog. Let’s just get over it, keep posting and see how the blog evolves.

  • Battlemama
    Mar 20, 2008 at 8:55 am

Anne: I have no problem with different opinions. I just hope you can respect the fact that some of us don’t care much for these two, but I will admit I do come here to see Suri. I also will not condone and support them using their baby for their own PR. And I will call them on it.

Suri is in hiding right now because KH’s movie failed and she had a backlash from using Suri for in NY for PR in January. (And don’t give me the happy family garbage because where are Bella and Connor hiding and why are they not with the family any more. According to the media, the family is TC, KH, and Suri. The older two are homeschooled, so they are not attached to a regular school. That allows for quite a bit in flexibility with travel, etc.)

I have always respected others opinions and I will ‘reply’ back if I think you are wrong so I can question why you feel that way. I do that to find out what more you think. However, I have never told anyone to leave or that they are stupid.

And Anne, telling someone to pack and leave is a lot better than some of the comments I and other posters have personally received from hard core fans.

What makes me nervous is that one of the posters who was telling people to commit suicide two weeks ago is brown-nosing the new moderator as if she had never done anything wrong and the moderator appears to be buddying up with her. Also, those posts were all conviently deleted.

I agree with lili that I hope things can be kept nice for all, regardless of opinion. I also hope that Julie will crack down on all who attack other posters, regardless of their fan status and brown-nosing.

As much as Tom Cruise has been on videos and other areas on the internet and other places carrying out his agenda and in regards to Scientology, it becomes “quite” hard to disregard this fact about him.

  • Anne
    Mar 20, 2008 at 9:46 am

It is well and good for all of you usual bashers to come here now and sweeten yourselves. You have your agendas I guess.

Just because I have come back to this site does not mean I have never visited other sites where I have found posters here saying dispicable things about other posters and about Tom and Katie and Suri. I don’t care much for most of the people who have posted here or their views. I don’t care if Tom Cruise flies whales around the world for vital surgery. I just wanted a place where I came and say some thing without anyone saying I was taking cool aid. Most of all I was tired of every post turning into an anti-scientology crusade. I doubt any fan cares that much. Notice that they left instead of taking your side. The only reason I have returned to post is because Julie promised to delete such rubbish. If she is good to her promise, the site will be a good place for fans to be.

Libra remembers me, I posted here before she came and there were a number of fans who left because they were simply tired of the negativity. So for the last six months, you have preached to the choir of the already converted ex-scientoligists anyway. I guess they will never return to scientology. Lets all move on.

As she has said, it is a fansite now. Leora had other ideas. I even liked it when it was a satirical site but not as a bashing site. Besides it is the same people all over the internet with all this propaganda. I am sure you will find another place where to preach against scientology.

I wonder though why Leora left the site. I should send her an e-mail and ask.

And no Anne, I am not reinventing myself. Sorry. My name is chosen because I have 2 daughters in Katie’s age brackett so I make no apologies whatsoever in being concerned about a young woman falling off the deep end in love with someone like TC who has the money and power and probably charm to sweep her off her feet. Nothing would be wrong with that except for the CoS piece. As a mom, that is enough to have nightmares over.

Concerned Mom, I support your last entry. I also am a mom and would also be worried to death if I found out my child had hooked up with someone who was a member of what many may call a “cult.” Everyday her parents hear more bizarre stories about this group of people. It would be enough to keep me up late at night too.

@Concerned mom - I couldn’t agree more about the children of celebs and how they should be protected. I can’t imagine being a celebrity and listening to what others say about my kids. You can say whatever you want about me, but don’t mess with my kids!! :)

  • Julie
    Mar 20, 2008 at 1:14 pm

Just a quick note: There are obviously going to be some comments on here that don’t agree with Tom Cruise’s beliefs or what kinds of things they do with Suri as far as pr, etc. I will allow people to have opinions, but like I said before…it needs to be respectful.

It’s when other commenters start bashing other’s opinions that it gets out of hand. Let’s say what we feel, but not call each other names because of a different opinion.

You will all have to bear with me. I am new to this blog, obviously, and am trying to reinvent it as a place that brings you un-biased news. I imagine it will have a mixture of fans and non-fans who just want to see what this couple is up to.

I will do my best to stay on top of the comments and not let them get out of hand.. I hope this can be a place that anyone who is a fan or is just looking for the latest tomkat gossip, rumors or whatever, can enjoy.

Do all the comments have to be “I LOVE her shoes!” No, but if I do post a story like, ahem, Tom Cruise not considering IVF, there are going to be all kinds of opinions. Mine included, but my goal here is to blog about this couple and be respectful about it.

I hope what I am saying is making sense and that we can find a nice balance here. If there ever is a comment that pops up and it’s uncalled for, please shoot me an email and let me know. I can’t catch them all as they happen. That would make me a hermit who never leaves my computer. :)

Hope you are all having a great day! It’s almost the weekend. w00t!

I agree with your comment Julie. When my son hurts, I hurt. Sometimes I wonder if I hurt too much, but it all comes with the territory when you decide to be a parent. I wouldn’t trade it for nothing. In fact, it’s hard for me to really imagine what my life was like before my child came on the scene. Seriously Libra, that would be too fancy for the Amish.

I feel neutral about the dress. My girls had one similar to it, but I didn’t like it because of the dark colors. The sweater is soft. I like little girls in white sweaters at fancy occassions! But, again, not for loafing around Paris!!

Also, for loafing around Paris, nice slacks, shirt, tennis shoes would have been better…especially on a cold, rainy day. But, I am more practical and Katie is more fashion/camera consciuous.

Yeah, she’s fashion conscious alright. She would have on a coat protecting her body from the elements and that child would be uncovered. You are also right about the impracticality of the kid’s clothes. You hardly ever saw her in a pair of jeans or something comfortable. I know when my son was that age, comfort was a necessity. I am not certain why Suri never had a coat on, but some of the outfits she wore in Paris–I loved the polka dot little dress -were totally cute. I loved raising little girls. In the 70’s we had a little tiny pink rosebud pattern on the little dresses.

  • Julie
    Mar 20, 2008 at 3:20 pm

I can’t get my 4 year old to wear a coat for anything. I had the same problem with my oldest child. Then, I realized that they were hot natured like me, lol! My daughter would scream the entire time she had a coat on and I thought she was nuts, or possibly possessed. :) Later, I realized she was just down right hot.

I loved the polka dot dress too. Very cute.

Well I know I could not get my girls into them for the longest and then in the spring could not get them out of their coats. LOL

  • Anne
    Mar 20, 2008 at 4:37 pm

I have seen Suri wear coats so many times that I wonder what this discussion is about, the blue one, the purple one, the red one (my favourite), the checked one….etc. Infact I remember someone commenting that her red coat costs more than some people’s entire wardrobe yet she is going to out grow it anyway.

Other times, it takes a short time from their car to a hotel and she is not going to die without a coat for two minutes, I usually notice Tom holding it.

She seems a strong minded child and she has been pictured screaming and throwing a fit. I doubt you can force her to do certain things. Any one who has child understands what Julie is talking about, a strong minded kid can be difficult at the age you can’t spank them or in public where you can’t spank them.

Still I doubt the people here commenting on Suri’s coat love her so much that they are concerned about her welfare as we all know they are not.

  • Libraesque
    Mar 20, 2008 at 4:49 pm

I think what people are commenting on, and have been on this site for quite awhile, are the NUMEROUS photos of suri in freezing weather with no coat and often short sleeves, while her parents both have heavy coats on.

And you’re right anne…NO ONE on this board “LOVES” suri………no one KNOWS her…you kind of have to KNOW someone to LOVE them, don’t you think????

Libra, I agree. I might sound harsh, but I didn’t KNOW my grandparents. When first my grandmother passed away last year, I tried to convince myself that I loved her because of our blood ties. I then had to come to terms, via a long process that I felt regret more than other feeling because I didn’t know her. Yes, I will always be fond of her, but I can’t honestly say I LOVED her. The same story went for my grandfather who passed away last month.
