Jennifer Lopez Asks Tom Cruise to be Twins Godfather

There’s a rumor going around all over the internet that Jennifer Lopez has asked Tom Cruise to be her twins’, Max and Emme, godfather. She also supposedly asked her husband’s permission and he wasn’t to thrilled about the idea at first.
A source said Tom Cruise was delighted to have the honor while Marc who was doubtful at the beginning finally approved Jennifer’s idea. “Tom is delighted. Marc wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to have a Scientologist as the kids’ godfather, especially as he and Jennifer are both Catholic. But in the end Lopez managed to convince him to agree,” so said the source. To convince her husband, the singer and actress reminds her husband of what Tom has done for their babies. The actor has showered Jennifer and Marc’s twins with lots of gifts and even planned a star-studded party called “Welcome to the World” for them.
I won’t believe a word of it until I hear it from Jennifer Lopez herself or a reliable rep. The whole story sounds a little fishy to me.

Whaaa????? Under Catholic Diocesan Law TC is not permitted to be the Godfather. Lopez announced that the twins would be baptized into the Catholic faith, therefore, the couple would need to secure Godparents that would train the children up in the Catholic tradition. (belief in the Trinity, Eucharist, etc. etc. ) TC’s faith/religion is Scientology. He would not be suitable in the eyes of the church to be a Godparent. More importantly, the Church Law will not permit it. The only way I see this happening is if TC buys his way into it by making a huge contribution to the Catholic church and even then that type of corruption is easily exposed so I just do not see this Godfather thing happening. Unless he is going to be a Godfather in “name” only. The Godfather must be at the Baptism at the Holy Water font during the ceremony and I just do not see TC taking a role in that ceremony. What priest would allow it, let alone what Diocese? There could be an outcry if this was permitted. He is a devout Scientologist who clearly would not follow the strict guidelines of what the Godfather’s role is to be in the Catholic faith….I just do not see this happening.
Calm down Jenna, I doubt the story is true. Besides the original story was that she asked him to have a godfather like story. By the end of the day, he was a godfather already bribing the catholic church. Princess Diana was a god mother of Jemima Khan’s kids who are moslem. Same for Elton John. It is a rumour which I doubt is true.
Besides older reports said Mark was into scientology and Jen was resisting it.
Why do people feel the need to launch into tirades over rumours? Don’t they feel a bit s!lly when the stories are denied later?
Reminds me of the story of Ronson playing at Suri’s birthday which sent some posters into fits only to turn out fabricated…. as usual.

wow, i agree with clare. just a silly rumor. a catholic wouldn’t allow a scientologist to be godfather anymore than a scientologist would agree to be one. wouldn’t make any sense.

It never ceases to amaze me how come people tend to believe rumors as truth. I am with Clare.
Sounds like Cruise is ’showering presents’ to buy more friends. He bought the Beckhams a $40,000 car and threw them a welcome to LA Party; they were smart and walked away because Cruise started pushing them to join Scientology. Thankfully, Marc has already said he will have nothing to do with the Scientology because he is strictly Catholic. I also doubt Marc will choose a Scientology zealot to help raise his kids Catholic.
Either way, sounds like just another rumor!!
Actually, what I have read is that JLo’s dad is a Scientologist. Mark is strictly Catholic. Don’t see this happening at all.

I am not sure how true this is but rumour has it that Jlo used scientology to concieve. I don’t how that works.
I have also wondered at the connection between them and Tom Cruise. But Tom Cruise has a very wide range of friends. I wish detractors could look beyond his beliefs and admit that he is a nice guy who means well. I guess what matters is that he is happy.
I think most people blogging here now are Tom and Katie supporters…well most.
It must be hard to know who your friends are in that world. It is sometimes hard for us “normal” people to know someone’s motives, so in that world your head must spin around at times not knowing who to trust. I think that is why Tom is so close to his mom and sisters, they give him a sense of daily stability.
I think Tom is so nice and I give him so much credit for being so friendly, but I will never truly accept his church. But I dont have to. I support that his beliefs are his own and I focus on other wonderful qualities I believe he has.
All the doubters I think are a bit harsh and maybe have had personal experiences that sway their opinions. I try to see both sides of things, and I dont feel sorry for Katie either, I feel she is quite blessed truly. And although she looks way older than her age, I dont think she looks sick.
But back to JLo, she is just not one of my fav’s, and it doesnt seem she has known Tom for very long, so if this story is true, cant wrap my mind around it. Shouldnt she pick someone from “the block”?
This rumor just seems very odd to me. I look forward to finding out if it’s true, but seriously have my doubts… Catholicism and Scientology are so totally different. It just wouldn’t make sense.
I am Catholic and a God Mother twice over. I had to go to attend a class each time at the same church. Maybe some churches operate different, but it was my understanding that you have to be baptised a Catholic to be a God Parent in the Catholic church’s eye. So the probability is slim, but it makes for good gossip!
I’m pretty sure this is fake. Latino people always stick together, they have close knit familys, whomever the god father is will be somebody Puerto Rican and blood related. Unless they want a wealthy godfather, well, T.C. is super rich, I think 300 million worth. But I don’t think they have known T.C. long enough to choose him as a god father. My psychic powers tell me this story is not true. Well, whomever the godfather is will be lucky.
I’m sure that someone in Marc and Jennifers families will be the Godparents.

Aside from her father being a Scientologist one of Jennifer Lopez’s best friends is a Scientologist as well.

Personally I don’t believe this story.
Her best friend Leah Remini who is a Scientology, has said “We’re asking for an audition for godparent roles… We’re waiting to hear back.”
So I think they will pick her and husband as a godparents (that is my opinion).
Tuna Subway, I don’t know about Latino’s but usually most Christians when they choose a Godparents they go with non-relative…at least its the case with my family.

The object of Godparents to to see that the child continues their religious training. Why would she pick a person that WILL make the child QUIT the religion that the parents are raising the child in?
TOTALLY does NOT make sense.
I think it all depend on the individual and they don’t really have to follow the rules. My niece’s godmother is Muslim and when niece was baptised her mother didn’t tell the church in case they tell her she can’t.
I am Catholic and have one Godparent for my son who was not, it wasnt a big deal. I think they were so excited I was baptising my son Catholic, they were pretty relax about it.. at least in the church we go to. I know other parishes are strict about it. I am sure if JLO asks Tom, they will ask her are any of the Godparents actually Catholic, and if they are, that will be good enough for them.
I think the part that is strange to me is that JLO has not known Tom for very long, but maybe they have some deep connection, who knows.
