Interview With The Stars of Mad Money
Here’s an article from the Shreveport Times about Mad Money:
Three famous actresses are in Shreveport to steal big money. On the big screen, of course.
"It’s three women together, and it’s crime. How can that not be fun?" Diane Keaton said.
"I haven’t played this character before," Queen Latifah said.
"I’m pumped," Katie Holmes said.
The movie "Mad Money," a heist comedy and thriller, begins shooting Monday in Shreveport.
Holmes and Keaton sat down with actor Ted Danson and director and co-screenwriter Callie Khouri on Friday night for a surprise interview at Eldorado Resort Casino.
Queen Latifah took a break from Saturday rehearsals to speak by phone.
"I loved it from the second I read it," Holmes said. "I love interesting female characters, and this is full of them."
For the movie, the women band together to steal soon-to-be-destroyed money from the Federal Reserve Bank. The characters’ criminal motivations are varied.
Keaton’s character is married to Danson’s. She’s never had a job. He’s lost his. They’ve lost their house. And she’s decided to take their future into her own hands.
"I’ve never really had an opportunity to play a criminal mind before," Keaton said, her bright eyes peeking out from under the brim of a gray hat. "Through this horrible adversity comes this other person, this opportunity to change your life."
Queen Latifah was equally intrigued by her new role. "She’s smart but kind of controlled. She’s the mother of two sons," she said. The star believes "Mad Money" offers a chance to play against type. "Any job that I have where I have to become smaller than I am naturally … is a challenge to me."
Holmes was drawn to her character from the get-go. "She’s funny, she’s smart and just a little bit misunderstood," Holmes said while looking mischievously at Keaton. "She’s involved in this crime, but she’s sort of delighted to just be a part of something and have girlfriends for the first time. She’s a type of person who creates a happier environment than she’s actually in. … I like that about her. She’s a free spirit."
"When you hear who’s in it, the three ladies, you go, ‘I want to see that,’" Danson said. "That’s interesting." The dapperly dressed and wryly funny actor became famous as Sam Malone on TV’s "Cheers." He chose "Mad Money" because he loved the cast, knew the director, liked the script and, he joked, "I’m trying to further my career."
The team sports an impressive list of accolades: six Oscar nominations, including two wins; 13 Emmy nominations, including two wins; 21 Golden Globe nominations, including six wins; 16 Teen Choice nominations, including one win; and five MTV Movie Award nominations, including one win.
What may appear as pressure to perform is secondary to having fun.
"I think you always want people to love everything you do as much as you do, but you can’t really go into it hoping that’s the outcome," said Khouri, who earned an Oscar for writing the iconic "Thelma & Louise."
"You really have to enjoy what you’re doing. We are so lucky to be able to do it. … You want to rise to the challenge of your peers, and this is one of those rare opportunities where everybody’s game is going to be good."
"You never really know what you’re gong to learn," Queen Latifah said. "It’s always a new experience being around new people and watching them do what they do."
To Danson, the team will work well together because of professionalism. "I think camaraderie is an added bonus. I think being really good actors is what makes everything work well."

No worries, amy! some folks here are irritable since “M” left. They misse the challenged dialogue. The women here (the regulars) are very “touchy” You make ANY slight constructive criticism, they pounce. Watch the claws… BTW: this movie will bomb! Diane Keaton is a fabulous actor, but she alone will not be able to carry this whole film. Hopefully, Queen Latifah will take some of the load off. Ready for the claws now…

Katie is a smart woman. However, she comes across as quite silly in most interviews. I believe it is because she never had the benefit of a college education and time to mature. These things can help expand your vocabulary and intra/inter-personal skills. She uses words like incredible, and amazing far too often. I am quite sure Katie would have gained some valuable maturity from a Columbia University education.
I do hope the movie is good. The writer is Callie Khouri. She won an oscar for “Thelma & Louise” as a writer. It is a bit of a concern that she is also directing. Her one known film as a director is “The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood”. That film could have been a good, but was seriously flawed; primarily because of the direction. We can still hope.

WOW, really….the ya-ya sisterhood, that movie seriously stunk. And I happen to agree, I think this movie will bomb. I think KH made a bad choice with this as her return to work movie. She should have held out, but then again, no one is clamoring to hire her.

Actually Because I said so did good with 14 million opening day. Other Independent films and Prestigious movies do way lower than those nos.
Even Academy award movies dont do well at the box office than expected Blockbuster films.
Critics mock Wild Hogs,Blades of Glory,Nacho Libre,the latest Ben Stiller films and they’re all box office gold.
Cameron Diaz film with Kate Winslett,the movies of Alba and Scarlett are not good at the box office but they keep working.
Im excited for Katie and for me she is smart and real.A beautiful person in and out. To me intelligence is nothing when you’re a mean soul and actually some intelligent people use their intelligence in the wrong way. I ignore haters because all their remarks and judgements are wrong and cruel. Truthfully let them insult Katie.
Its not going to hurt Katie but those doing the insulting. Life is too short and unpredictable to be insulting others. The Virginia Tech incident today is a big example. Who would have thought this tragedy will happen and those 33 students didnt expect today was the last day of their lives.

I dont idolize stars in Hollywood but as far as Katie and Tom I give them credit for not buckling down to their critics. I dont know any of this celebs but only a few are really wonderful people in this business and I feel Katie and Tom are among them. To me they are talented and I antipicate their future movies.

I am puzzled as to why I am considered a ‘hater’…
I have a full life and am surrounded by many many people who both love me and receive my love back in return…NONE of whom would consider me a ‘mean soul’!
I am sure the same would be said of other posters whom you also class as ‘haters’
from what I have been reading on this site for the past few days, it appears that the ‘haters’ simply voice their (opposing) opinion of tomkat, then proceed to suffer a barrage of personal, nasty and even VIOLENT threats and abuse..

amy, I myself is a fan of Tomkat we come here to comment on the topic at hand but there are a couple of people naming Lib and Mia who come here to insult the fans and trying to brainwash them against Tomkat. I’ve been around this site for a while and I’ve seen the fans been engaged in a really good discussion and debate to prove their case but those two people don’t have a good debate (they just insult Tomkat and use the same old conspiracy theory over and over again without answering the fans question properly) and they have run the fans patients to the limit. And if there was anyone who has been insulting to the to anyone are the non-fans like those two, so please check your facts. The fans haven’t done anything these two didn’t deserve and use the *ignore loser* because they gave up on them. And I wouldn’t say the non-fans are having a great debate with insulting an innocent child.

And Amy, the question the rabid fans want an answer to is the EXACT date Katie gave birth. The problem is, any information they post to back up one of their theories, is obtainable online. Suri’s “real” birthdate is not.
This is the only way they can dismiss the fact that Katie gave birth earlier than April 18th. If I can’t give them an exact date, then it’s obviously not true.
So it’s easy for them to ignore ALL the other facts that add up to THE FACT that Suri was born way before April 18th

the thing is that people see tom as very rich and succesful…yes he is…or rather, yes he is rich and once he was very succesful…
they confuse this with being intelligent, streetwise, clever or even just normal…
acting (whilst i have nothing against the profession) can make billionaires out of stupid, dumb, common, trash… its an industry about IMAGES…and tom’s has been carefully manufactured for DECADES…
i can see how someone like him, from his background of a poor, struggling single mother to many children, an abusive father, a history of learning difficulties…etc…who THEN went on to find fame and money through movies.. would obviously be filled of self doubt etc…THATS WHEN $CIENTOLOGY MOVED IN..the rest is history..he ain’t a messiah..he is just some struggling kid with ok looks and a bit of charisma made it big in hollywood..

Yeah we like to enjoy reading about TC and looking at the pics, also commenting and getting feedback from other fans. But you guys have nothing better to do than make us feel bad for being fans. So to make it a HAPPY place again we spend as much time arguing our piont with YOU as you spend writing lies about us and TomKat…..You guys are control freaks.
