Tom and Katie Take Suri To See “Jersey Boys”
July 5, 2009 by Rachel Segal
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes took Suri out for a night at the theatre in Melbourne on July 5th. Attending the Australian stage production of ‘Jersey Boys: The Story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons’ at the Princess Theatre, Tom held Suri close while the camera flashes were going crazy. I’m sure she’s had plenty of experience in front of rabid paparazzi, but that still has to be a little bit scary for her.

A big change from Katie’s cool and casual look on the set of “Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark”, her creamy coat is just lovely (don’t forget - it’s winter in Australia!) and I imagine very cozy too.
According to the Herald Sun, who spoke to Tom after the show, Suri knew almost all of the words to the Frankie Valli songs in the show since his albums were constantly playing in their Los Angeles home. Who knows…Suri might be practicing to follow in her famous parents’ footsteps!

TomKat Take in an AFL Match For Tom’s Birthday
July 4, 2009 by Rachel Segal
Finally! Some photos from Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’s low key birthday celebrations at the Collingwood and Essendon AFL Match.
Instead of the standard crazy Hollywood celebrity party, Tom and Katie hung out with good friend James Packer and Katie’s “Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark” co-star, Guy Pearce in a corporate box. During the game, Cruise was friendly and smiling to fans who I were surprised to see the famous couple out for the match on Tom’s birthday.
This was just a night for Tom and Katie; Suri stayed at home. As close as the Cruise family is, it’s always nice to see Tom and Katie get some alone time to hang out and be a couple too!

Katie Holmes Heads To The Set Of “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark”
July 3, 2009 by Rachel Segal
Officially, “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” begins shooting on Monday, but Katie Holmes was seen on the set today looking cute and casual in a black beret and horn-rimmed glasses. Her tights and black flat shoes look very laid back and comfortable too.
It’s interesting to note how much emphasis was placed on the set being closed and very carefully monitored by security, but photos of Katie on set surface before shooting has even begun! Even though I hope the photographers don’t intrude on the actors trying to get their work done, it is really great to see Katie with so much on the go this summer. Between the Dizzy Feet Foundation, practicing for “So You Think You Can Dance” and now getting into the groove for “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark”, Katie has a lot on the go!

Happy 47th Birthday, Tom!
July 3, 2009 by Rachel Segal
Another year has gone by and today is Tom Cruise’s 47th birthday! From me and Julie, we want to wish Tom a fantastic birthday with his family in Melbourne.

Still looking as dapper and handsome as ever, it’s so great to see him and Katie both with great movies starting production this Summer. Of course, then there is adorable little Suri who seems to get more beautiful by the day!
I hope the Cruise family got a chance to enjoy his birthday in Melbourne (with time zones being what they are, his birthday has come and gone over there!) and continue to have a great time while they are there.

Kate Ceberano Says She’s Not Singing At Tom’s Birthday
July 2, 2009 by Rachel Segal
Once the rumors started swirling about all the plans for Tom Cruise’s 47th birthday on July 3rd, it’s no surprise that Australian popstar Kate Ceberano’s name showed up in the news since she has already performed for the Cruises in 2005 (also for his birthday).
But Kate talked to the press today and laughed off these unsubstantiated claims about his party, though mentioned she is looking forward to getting to spend some time with Tom and Katie.
“There are going to be so many stories while they’re here. I’m not touching that one.”

Vague? Yes, very much so. But it seems unlikely that she will be giving a repeat performance for TomKat this year.
The question remains…what is planned for Tom’s birthday party?

Katie Helps Found The Dizzy Feet Foundation
July 2, 2009 by Rachel Segal
The charity Katie Holmes will be supporting when she performs later this month on “So You Think You Can Dance” has finally been announced! Katie is collaborating with director Adam Shankman and “Dancing With The Stars” judge, Carrie Ann Inaba to jumpstart the Dizzy Feet Foundation.
Dedicated to improving and increasing access to dance education nationwide, Dizzy Feet will provide scholarships and assistance for underprivileged youth, helping them toward their dreams of dancing professionally. Annual scholarships will range from $1,500 to $7,500.
In addition to providing monetary assistance to the dance community, Dizzy Feet is also determined to “elevate and standardize” dance instruction across the United States.
Katie was quoted in the official press release from the Dizzy Feet website as saying:
“I think it’s important for children to experience music and dance,” said Holmes. “Every child should have the opportunity to discover what it is they like and have access to the very best in that pursuit.”
What an ambitious cause for Katie to be involved in! I didn’t realize dancing was such a passion for her, but then again we have seen her and Suri both really take to dancing in the last couple of months.

This is really fantastic to see her working on something that will have such a positive impact on a number of lives. Sometimes when academic pressure gets so high, kids and parents forget how important it is to have athletic and creative pursuits as well. Arts and music programs are commonly cut first in schools that are always battling budget restrictions and cutbacks.
Some of the other notable names that will be serving on the Steering committee include:
- Paula Abdul
- Jennifer Lopez
- Miley Cyrus
- Mia Michaels
- Mary Murphy
- Debbie Allen
- Shane Sparks
- Lil C
Want to get involved? Dizzy Feet accepts tax-deductible contributions from corporations and individuals via direct solicitations, fundraisers and other events. I imagine they will add an easy way to contribute through their website very soon!

Confirmed: Guy Pearce To Co-Star With Katie Holmes
June 30, 2009 by Rachel Segal
It’s official! As we speculated yesterday, Guy Pearce is set to join Katie Holmes in Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark. You might remember this handsome Aussie actor from the critically acclaimed Christopher Nolan film, Memento (2000), where he played amnesia stricken Leonard Shelby.
Pearce will be portraying the father of Bailee Madison, who is also confirmed as the little girl who is haunted by all the scary things living in the house, and boyfriend to Katie Holmes. It doesn’t sound like there will be much time for love scenes with all their time spent fighting demons out to get his daughter!
In other news, the first photos of Tom, Katie and Suri arriving at Melbourne’s Essendon Airport have surfaced in The Sydney Morning Herald and News.com.au. How adorable is sleepy Suri resting on Tom’s shoulder!

Katie And Tom In Melbourne For “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark”
June 29, 2009 by Rachel Segal
Filming is set to begin for Katie Holmes’s new movie “Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark” which will be shot in Melbourne, Australia. As was already reported, we know that the set will be closed and security extra tight. Even if our curiosity might be wondering what the stars are up to, I think we can all agree having a little privacy from the paparazzi should help the actors focus without unnecessary distractions.
So far, information about the film is limited, but what we do know is that this is going to be a scary one! The story is about a young girl who goes to live with her father and his girlfriend, only to discover there are evil creatures living there too.
Katie is no stranger to scary movies with Disturbing Behavior (1998) and Teaching Mrs. Tingle (1999) two of her early starring roles. The only other cast member they’ve listed on IMDB (and even she is only ‘rumored’!) is the adorable nine year old Bailee Madison who you might remember from Bridge to Terabithia where she played Mary Beth Aarons.
Even though we won’t have access to the set, I wonder what attractions Katie and Tom will take Suri to while they are in Melbourne. It’s supposed to be a beautiful city!
“Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” is slated to be released in 2011.

Katie Holmes Will Perform On So You Think You Can Dance
June 27, 2009 by Rachel Segal
After weeks of seeing photos of Katie Holmes outside the CBS studios sporting dance gear, we finally have the official word that she will be doing a dance number on So You Think You Can Dance this season. The show’s producer, Nigel Lythgoe confirmed this in an interview with People Magazine.
From Lythgoe: “Katie is a small part of what is going on,” he said. “It’s more than Katie.”
The performance will be in support of a charity - which charity is still up in the air while the show’s producers continue to finalize everything and work out paperwork with other “official channels” including the IRS.
The rumor is that Katie will be doing a tribute to Judy Garland’s “Come On Get Happy” from Summer Stock. Her performance is expected to be part of the season finale, which will air on August 6th July 23rd episode.
It should be really fantastic to see Katie show off the dancing skills she certainly picked up from her work on Broadway. You might also remember late last year when Katie did a sexy song and dance number on ABC’s Eli Stone. You can check out the video on Youtube (sorry, they have it disabled so I can’t embed the video here!).

Cameron Diaz Excited To Work With Tom Cruise Again
June 26, 2009 by Rachel Segal
This week Cameron Diaz was gushing to US Magazine about how excited she is to be working with Tom Cruise again on their upcoming film, Wichita.

“I’m very, very excited about doing it. It’s an action film, so I’m really excited to work him.”
Last month Variety reported that the script has been approved by both Tom and Cameron, and the film expected to be released in 2010. Tom stars as a secret agent while Cameron will be playing the leading lady who hasn’t had the best luck with men.
It will be great to see Tom and Cameron back on the big screen together. They had a lot of chemistry in Vanilla Sky, reckless as it may have been in that storyline!
